The artist has utilised an array of sporting items, equipment and such to display this so-called romanticised perspective of WWI. By showcasing such items and different characteristics of humans, it attempts to inform us of WWI being this fantastic, ideal and fulfilled opportunity to make friends, have fun and fight enemies on a journey. It covers up the genuine wounds of the war's aftermath and achieves the atmosphere of a romanticised, ideal and fun war.

Through the first and second stanzas, the words narrated set the mundane, 50/50 tone for the song. It describes the literal events of what happened before and during the war as what it legitimately was like. Although, compared to the last few lines of the chorus, readers can recognise how the use of specific phrase s and words show a more romanticised perspective of the war as to being this journey of all sunshine and butterflies. i.e "And Townsville lined the footpath as we marched down to the quay."

As readers may know of the agent orange sunset to be a toxic spray as a way of sabotage during the war, the song uses this factor to display how the agent orange sunset intoxicated not only the environment but the humans and individuals fighting in those very areas. It symbolises the aftermath chemical warfare as leaving behind a toxic, dead and horror of a mark.

It symbolises that 19 was simply way too young to be going through that kind of trauma, horror and shock. People in those early stages of youth are physically less mentally stronger and less capable of dealing with such situations and PTSD, as lines show the true effect the war had on 19 year olds.

Through the art of literature, individuals are able to gain detailed insights into the changing perspectives and reality of war through a range of various examples in correlation to displaying different so-called phases of war. During WWI, it is assumed that there are to be different phases, perspectives or versions of the war: Romanticised or reality. With the help of different forms of literature, audiences can visibly see the perspectives changing according to different styles of work. For instance, through the exhibition of the cover of the book 'Enlist in the Sportsmen's Thousand', we can see a gathering of men holding various different objects, categorising different actvities. We can infer that this poster is conveying the romanticised version of WWI, where it's believed to be this fun, ideal and enjoyable journey rather than a series of traumas. This provides us with another perspective of how the events of war can be interpreted. Additionally, through another example, the song 'I was only 19' written by Redgum, shows a series of lyrics indirectly explaining their perspective of a war. One line of the song states "And can you tell me, doctor, why I still can't get to sleep?" This displays an opposite perspective of war to the poster, where the war is said to be this toxic, trauma-filled real-life version of a horror movie. Through lyrics, we can gather the true negative impact of the war, trauma and PTSD that the war has left on individuals. As we can gather, different forms of literature can provide extremely different insights into the changing perspectives and reality of wars as to how everything is said to be vs what it is to be.
