1. The source is a photograph of American men protesting against US involvement in the Vietnam War.
2. This tells us there was resistance to the war and not everyone approved of what was happening in Vietnam. The 'rich man's war' could refer to the impact the war had on the economy. The Truman Doctrine gave money to countries wanting to fight against communism - the protest pictured opposes this. Also, it seems like the people in the protest are ex-soldiers, so they have first-hand experience of the war and are therefor opposed to the things they had to do while in the army, fighting in Vietnam.
3. This image is a one sided view of the feelings of Americans towards the war (anti-war). Also, there are only young men featured in the protest so this source doesn't represent the views of women and the older generation of the Vietnam War.

1. A map/ diagram
2.Shows the various range of the missiles in Cuba and the major cities they can target within the USA

The danger that Cuban missiles pose to the USA's major cities

How capable Cuba is to attack the USA

3. Represents the fear people had about what Cuba was capable of even if it wasn't realistic

Gives factual information
on the distance the missiles can travel

Exaggerates and insinuates that all these cities shown are threatened by Cuba

Makes Cuba seem more central on the map

The shape the map creates only draws attention to Cuba and the USA

The presence of Mexico city is slightly out of place, Mexico is not part of the main focus, but has a target showing that it is threatened by Cuba too

WHAT IS THE SOURCE?
The source is a political cartoon from 1950. It depicts an unstable tower of buckets overflowing with paint. Atop the tower is a barrel labelled "McCarthyism". An elephant is being led to the tower by four men named Gabrielson, Taft, Bridges and Wherry - all conservative politicians of the time. The caption reads "You mean I'm supposed to stand on that?"

WHAT DOES IT TELL US?
The source potrays McCarthyism as being unstable. The tower is clearly not able to hold the weight of an elephant. If the elephant is viewed as an accused Communist one can assume that these politicians are making wild claims that are not backed up by sufficient evidence.

STRENGTHS
The cartoon is a primary source from the time. Political cartoons often are an accurate representation of popular opinion. It also accurately depicts McCarthyism as unstable. It is fact that in the later years of McCarthyism the accusations grew increasingly unreasonable.

WEAKNESSES
It is unclear what the elephant represents. One cannot reach a conclusion as to the full meaning of the cartoon without assuming the role of the elephant. The actions of the men are also ambiguous. Leading the elephant to the tower could mean several things, such as accusing the elephant of Communism. Another interpretation is that the elephant is another of McCarthy's attacks, meaning that he is further weakening his credibility.

1) the source is of a bear which represents the soviets taking control of inner Berlin.
2) This particular source tells us that the soviets captured Berlin ( berlin blockade) and were gradually closing the gap on the city and ruling the city under soviet control. this allowed the USSR to show their power over the world but also over the US in which tension was present.
3)strengths: shows a good depiction of the soviet power at the time,
weaknesses: doesnt show the division of berlin
