How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Over this year I have used many different media technologies to present my work in the nicest way I possibly can. Instead of just using the same old way to present my work I decided to search the internet for different ways in which I can present my work. E.G. I have put all of courswork onto a blog. I thought this was the best way to present my work. I used a site called Blogger which allows me to set up my own account and post my work onto the internet. This means people all around the world can see my work. That is just one of the many media technologies I used over the year.

Blogger

Blogger is the site I used to post my display my work. It was a very good piece of media technology as I had no problem with using the online site. My favourite thing about Blogger is the fact it allows you to embed things from other sites. An example of this is embedding a clip from Youtube which means the video is there to be watched rather than just a link. Sometimes Blogger could be quite difficult to use. This was the case when I tried to upload a Microsoft document onto Blogger. It wouldn't let me do this. This was a problem as I did a lot of work using Microsoft software. However overall I am happy I chose this media technology to display my work. The fact Blogger had an app was also a bonus for me as it meant I could use it on my iPad.

YouTube

YouTube was one of the most important pieces of media technology I used over year. I used it for research into similar trailers, posting my trailer and searching for examples of the music I wanted to have on my trailer. Youtube also allows you to embed clips onto Blogger. This really helped when it came to presenting my trailer on Blogger. Youtube also has an app on the apple store, this meant I could do work on my iPad when I was on the move. Youtubes only fault for me was the time it took to upload my clips. my 2 minute trailer took over 10 minutes to upload which is a very long time when I needed to get work done. I would 100% recommend Youtube as it helped me massively throuout this year

Soundcloud

I found Soundcloud incredibly hard to use when I oiginally started using it. However it was very effective. Soundcloud allows you to post voice recordings which became very handy when I had to upload my audience feedback onto blogger. It can also be embedded easily which helped me out a lot. However the Soundcloud app is very hard to use, this meant I struggled to use the app on my phone and iPad. On the positive side, Souncloud was very effective when I needed to upload a voiceover onto my trailer. It made the process simple and quicker than I was expecting it to be.

Thinglink

I think that thinglink is the best media technology I used over the year. Not only was it easy to use, it looked really good when embedded on blogger and there was an app that I could use when using my iPad. The way Thinglink is displayed is very different to other media technologies. It allows you to see the picture in full size which is really good for the smaller details on my print products. I used Thinglink for question 1 of my evaluation.

iMovie

I used iMovie to edit my trailer and to practice my continuity editing. I practiced using iMovie at the start of the year when I practiced my continuuity editing. I then used it to edit my trailer. It is a very good piece of software to use. It was very simple and it made edditing my trailer much easier than I thought it would be. A negative of iMovie would be the difficulty of saving the movie. I ended up losing a trailer as I didnt understand the saving method. This was a big problem for me as it meant I had to do my trailer again.

Scribd

I used scribd for my evaluation question 3, It is very helpfull because it allowed you to upload microsoft documents onto it. This meant I could type up the infoprmation in Powerpoint and then upload it to Scribd so I could embed it onto Blogger. Scribd looks very proffesional when embedded onto blogger. I found Scribd app very difficult to use, this meant I had to resort to using my Laptop. Apart from this problem, Scribd was very helpfull to me.

Prezi

Prezi is a very interesting media technology. I used it for my evaluation question 2. Prezi has a really good app, I used the app instead of the computer because the computer virsion of Prezi was really difficult to use. prezi looks really proffesional and stands out from other presentation software like Microsoft Powerpoint. It is much harder to use but the end result is much better.

Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office consits of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excell. I used Microsoft Powerpoint. Powerpoint is really easy to use. However, Powerpoint is very popular and I like my blog to look different to every one elses. It is very simple to use but I think it is too basic. This is why I only used it for my research and planning as the presentation of this dosent matter as much as my evaluation or print products. Microsoft Powerpoint dosent have an app on the app store either.

Adobe Fireworks

I have used Fireworks a lot this year. I used it to design my Print Products and to edit together my intertitles for my trailer. Fireworks is a really good media product. I found it was the best option for me when constructing my media product. My only problem with fireworks is the fact you have to pay for it. I didnt want this cost so I found myself having to go to school a lot for free use of this media technology. Having this option helped me with my coursework over the year. Also, you could save Fireworks documents as JPEG's which meant I could embed images onto Blogger which is an important factor for my coursework.

Flickr

This is a very usefull media technology. I used it to store all of the images I had taken for my print products. I then embedded a Flickr Slideshow onto my blog. This looked very proffesional and not many other people know about Flickr Slideshows which makes my blog unique to others. The only problem with Flickr was the app. It was very slow and frustrating to use so I found myself always having to go onto my laptop to use it.

iMessage/Kik

These two media technologies are messaging services. We used one to message the park ranger and the other one as a socila media site in our trailer. We didnt use these media technologies enough to pick faults.

Apple Mac

I used the Apple Macs to edit the clips I had filmed into a trailer, design my magazine cover, poster, billboard and DVD cover. The Apple Macs had very big screens, this meant I could put two screens side by side which was very useful when comparing my new and old print products. A negative of the macs is the different layout compared to normal computers, this made proggress slow at first.

Video Camera

I used the video camera to film the scenes that contributed to my trailer. The video cameras were very good quality which really improved the look of my trailer. at some points the cameras were difficult to use. This was the case when charging the cameras. Sometimes the cameras didnt charge for us which made it very difficult.
