Foley workshop

For our Foley workshop we were given the task of recreating the sounds from a popular scene from the Matrix. We were given time to create and replicate sounds from the original using everyday objects in a room which we went on to record and edit. An example of this is us replicating the main character opening the envelope to see the phone inside. We recreated this by ripping paper to show the ripping of the envelope in the scene. Another example would be the phone ringing, where we recorded a ringtone. We used a basic ringtone to replicate the time the film was created and shot as there was a basic flip phone with basic capabilities and sounds.

Although the process went well, we did come across some problems while in the editing process of this audio test. One of these problems is the audio clips being too short to cover the full time of the action in the scene. We solved this in Adobe Premier Pro by shortening or lengthening the audio clips to ensure it ran smoothly with the timings of the scene.

Last session we were looking at childrens television programs which we watched when we were younger like The simpsons, Rupert the bear and The fimbles, we started to analsye their theme songs and open credits looking for why they became so catchy. We then in our e-book production teams downloaded Garage band which is a music app for the IPad , we then started to replicate our favourite Kids show intros. I tried to replicate the Fimbles theme skng although this was difficult with the instruments and tempos available kn garage band as none kf the sounds fitted the music i was re creating.

Whiplash analysis

In the concluding scene of whiplash, they use atmosphere to demonstrate and show the realistic sounds going thriugh the head of the drummer. By slowly changing the softness and pitch of the sounds, it shows the pain and change that the drummer is undergoing as a result of the fightback against the teacher. By using upbeat music, it shows the change in the drummers mentality from the start to the scene to the end. By doing this it shows the drummer overcoming the teacher, and a result the change in his attitude and the belief he has in himself and his ability.

My task for this session was to create and assist cameron to create our week by week production schedule for unit 5 and 6. By creating a production schedule this assists us and helps us to know what were doing each week, if we follow this schedule correctly we should be able to reach the deadline without facing any timing problems and as a result, overrunning on the deadline. As well as this, I was given the task of creating and finalising a sketch of one of the characters in Photoshop, I had previously done some of the Photoshop work in the previous lesson and this lesson was more about finalising this image ready for animation and final production.
