Today we went on a trip to the other part of the island called Basse-Terre. It was the trip to the rainforest. There, classes were held, surrounded by nature, beautiful and unusual views.
I learned many things about vegetation, for example that the vegetation living in the forest is about 60 percent tributary or that there can be 1000 species on one tree. It was absolutely amazing!

Today is a day in the picturesque and green part of Guadeloupe - rainforests. I learned that here on trees there may be up to about 1000 species of other semi-parasites that benefit from nutrients. We have raised the topic of changes in societies and economies, which result in people from different regions of the world more and more united. Every year we exchange more goods, information, travell more and cooperate.

Today I was shocked to hear what kind of energy Guadeloupe uses. I am always surprised when people's greediness goes before wisdom. The UN has the agenda2030 program that is very popular in Finland. I think it's very good because it gives you hope of a better tomorrow, but when you hear something like this, it makes you desperate. Where is Guadeloupes own Greta Thunberg?

It was amazing to learn about nature. I have never before thought that in nature there are successful stories about living together in balance. The metaphor about multicultural forest is definitely something that I'm going to use with my students.

Today was the most impressive day so far. It was amazing to see the plants and animals and waterfalls.

Today was the best day yet. Taking the diverse nature and the interplay of a wide variety of plants from different origins as an example of successful "intercultural cooperation", I liked it. It shows us what advantages can result from working together. Also the fact that many plants (and also animals), which are not originally from Guadeloupe, could integrate well, should serve as an inspiration for us humans.
Already in the past days I was surprised that in a country like Guadeloupe with a lot of sun, water and wind so few solar panels and wind turbines were to be seen. This shows the dependency on France and the politics prevailing here, which still relies on fossil fuels and nuclear power. guadeloupe should go its own way here and make itself independent of the mother country - a challenge for local politics.
I liked the fact that today there was more group activity and at least a partial exchange of ideas.

Today has shown me impressively, using the example of the rainforest, how important togetherness and symbiotic interaction is. Transferred to a multicultural society it means the responsibility of each individual for tolerance, acceptance and mutual "fertilization"!
New and interesting for me was the information about the banana plant. For example, I did not know that it is a grass and that the plant dies after flowering.
How animals get used to the presence of humans and how they also benefit from it was shown by the "cleaning crew" that cleaned up after us.

Thinking globally - acting locally. This simple formula sums up the ambivalent questions of our time. I find the thought exciting - and it also relieves me in a certain way that I have to be aware of globalization and my own actions, including the effects on globalization. I can start changing my behavior, like my buying habits, but it won't save the world. However, if everyone starts to think globally and act locally, this could have an impact on the sustainability of our lives.

I found the question of whether further training in Guadeloupe is necessary, or whether the carbon footprint of such a trip is far too large and cannot be offset by anything, very exciting, because I discussed this question with my colleagues in Germany in advance. We were of the opinion that the trip is only "worth it" if you not only stay for the time of the training, but also add a holiday to it, so that you kill two birds with one stone. Triggered by the discussion in the group, I now think differently about it: the world economy is becoming ever more intertwined and faster. On a social and communicative level, we are only slowly catching up. This creates problems - last seen in the Ukraine war. Only if we communicate with each other and get to know each other we can we solve these problems. Guadeloupe is a prime example of the “thinking global-acting local” controversy. One could almost say that one can feel the roots of globalization here based on its slavery past. And with it the question of how to deal with - let's say for the sake of simplicity - two cultures that collide: black and white. Especially in a Europe in which a shift to the right can be observed, it is all the more important to sensitize Europeans to the topic of globalization: thinking global - acting local. Against this background, Erasmus' efforts to only subsidize train journeys are counterproductive, since Guadeloupe can only be reached by plane.

All my life I have wanted to go to a rainforest. My dream came true today.
We talked about acting locally, but thinking globally. Our world is global, and everything affects everything.
Why does Guadeloupe use French oil when they have so much sun energy? Why the French government doesn’t help people here build solar panels? It doesn't make any sense at all.
My favorite photo of this day is this tree, because everything lives in harmony. The nature is amazing, every plant and every creature has a meaning and purpose.
