Now, the moment you all have been waiting for! Our first ever edition of “Monday Morning QB”. This article is designed to highlight and break down notes from the weekend in the world of Ohio State football.

This game had more twists and turns than a West Virginia highway through the mountains. The 113th edition of “The Game” was watched lived by over 110,000 in the stands and over 25 million on television sets across the country. This top 5 matchup with Big Ten and Playoff implications did not disappoint as it double overtime to decide a winner. Luckily, Ohio State “ran away” with a victory to win a game that is one for the record books. 

 

This game was one of odd disappointment for me. I watched our offensive line running around for their lives as Taco Charlton looked like a king against Isiah Prince. Really? You’re getting destroyed by a guy named after a wimpy little Mexican food you need 12 of to be full. Compiled with the fact none of our wide receivers looked competent regarding our pass game, as so many wrong routes and so much dropping of the football occurred. Many of these miscues and issues caused our offense to sputter and allowed the most consistent QB in Buckeye history to look so lost that not even google maps could help him. And the most helpless soul of them all is the kicker, Tyler Durbin. As much as I hate picking on kickers, come on man get your crap together. I don’t expect you to make every field goal, but 2 out of 3 would be nice.  

 

On a positive note, I was so thankful for our defense this weekend. Every unit of the Buckeye defense looked outstanding as they dominated at the line of scrimmage and in the back ends of the secondary in key parts of the game. Jerome Baker draws visions of superman as he was everywhere on the field seemingly recording 15 tackles, 1 tackle for loss and a key interception that set up a cherry-picked touchdown for the Buckeyes. Raekwon McMillan proved Saturday that he someday will be making millions of dollars in the NFL doing what Ray Lewis made a living off, destroying a pro style run game. His team leading 16 tackles was outstanding as he kept laying the wood to the poor running backs from the north. Our most valuable asset on defense continues to be Malik Hooker. Hooker had his 3rd interception return for a touchdown this week, as he continues to be a ball hawking safety that is highly undervalued and underrated by everyone in the entire country in my opinion. Our defensive line continued to be a force of nature as they relentlessly came after Michigan’s quarterback, Wilton Speight. There is no doubt that our defense must continue to be our strength in our bowl game or playoff game coming very soon. 

 

As far as the content of the interview, I was rather surprised at the content of Urban’s responses. He seemed very excited about the victory, but at the same time had a very Coach Popovich way about him that just was extremely surprising coming from the big man himself. Urban is a very energetic and outspoken person, so to see him be very passive in his responding was almost out of character. But as he said, “Championship Teams are able to get this far. And with playmakers like JT Barrett and Curtis Samuel.” By the way, the winning play was 29 lead.
