They are holding them as if they are getting ready in case they need to fight her. There is a man laying on the floor and the woman looks like she is shooting her powers out to the judge. By the end of 1692, around two hundred people were accused of being witches.

This theory talks about how the Massachusetts Bay Colony would become a utopia. The person behind the "City on a Hill" theory was Jon Winthrop, and he created it to set a precedent for other Christians around the world. Puritans built colleges and taught men the ways of god. The ideas they were taught played a role in the Crucible.

Puritans and Calvinists had similar thoughts and beliefs. These included grace, predestination, limited atonement, and total depravity. John Calvin created it with an emphasis on the grace of god. The Calvinists did however believe in the existence in witchcraft. Sometimes they did fear these practices due to them having to do with Satan and his actions.
