The quote stated above is an indifference because not many people are standing up for the Black Americans that are being killed by police. It is clear that an injustice is taking place with this quote for multiple reasons. Firstly, police officers in America are stereotyping Black Americans because of their skin colour. For example, a person of colour named Stephon Clark was shot and killed by Sacramento police because they thought a phone was a gun. The police officer clearly stereotyped Stephon based solely off his skin colour because the officer has never met him before. Racism is another reason why an injustice is happening. Police officers such as Derek Chauvin purposely killed a person of colour named George Floyd in Minneapolis. The officer for no reason kneeled on George Floyd's neck for eight minutes after George repeatedly told him he could not breath. These reasons are why an injustice is taking place with this quote. The action that needs to be done against police brutality include harsher punishments for police officers, better training for when to use force or lethal weapons, and more protests. Firstly, if there are harsher punishments for police officers for when they are in the wrong it will lower the amount of police brutality. There should be an extra charge added for police officers when stereotyping or when being overall racist towards people of colour. Secondly, there should be more training for police officers on when to draw their gun or other lethal weapons. If police officers are not fully trained or educated on when to use their guns, it may cost more lives, especially Black Americans. Lastly, if more protest are happening to try to put an end to police brutality it will work. The government will see how upset and frustrated people are because of police brutality. This is why people need to stop being indifferent towards police brutality and racism.

The quotes above represent the term indifference because no one was speaking up for the youth who never received food or shelter. Although the service providers noted down the issue, no one was standing up for them. This quote stated here is a severe injustice for multiple reasons. Firstly, in article 25 of human right: "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care..." As we see here, it is in the "Charter of Rights and Freedom" to have food and shelter which many people did not receive. Secondly, with no access to basic needs such as food and shelter, there must be a ripple effect. For example, if someone does not receive food there is a high possibility of them facing diseases such as stomach or mouth cancer. If someone can not access food or shelter, it may affect their mental well-being and physical well-being.    In keeping with "Canadian Mental Health Association," about 25 to 50% of homeless people have some sort of mental illness. There are many actions that need to be done for the homeless people in Toronto. The first action is affordable housing. The government needs to create affordable housing with rent being $100 to $200 per month. According to "National Alliance to End Homelessness," 40% of unsheltered people are employed. This means housing is too expensive for them to afford and why $100 to $200 housing is a great plan. Another plan can to end this injustice is for the government to open more homeless shelters. With the growing population in Toronto the homeless shelters are filling up fast, which means the government needs to build more. The last action that should be done is more people donating money to food drives, or to the homeless people themselves. The quote above represents indifference towards many First Nation communities. As not many people are standing up to the government to fix the crisis, it is not getting done. The First Nation water crisis is an injustice for multiple reasons. Firstly, in the Charter of Rights and Freedom, "The right to water entitles everyone, to have access to sufficient, safe, acceptable..." As we it is apart of the Charter of Rights and Freedom to be able to have safe and clean water which many First Nation reserves do not have. Around 23 First Nation reserves do not have clean drinking water in 2023. With Canada having up to 20% of the world surface fresh water, there should be no reasons for people not to have unsafe drinking water. Many people including myself believe that racism is involved with the government's slow working ability to help the First Nation reserves. In 2015, Justin trudeau said, " I will fix the water crisis so all people can have clean drinking water." Justin Trudeau said he will fix the water crisis on all reserves by 2021, which did not happen. For these reasons I believe the First Nations water crisis is an injustice. There are several different ways to take action against the First Nation water crisis. Firstly, people can protest to the government. With the government being the only ones who can fix the water crisis, us as citizens need to go after them. Another way to take action is to start a petition. As we have seen in the past petitions are very useful especially when it is to the government. For example, Samer Majzoub started a petition condemning islamophobia and got 69,742 signatures. It reached the government and helped the cause Samer was trying to fix.      In elementary I had a lot of friends, but many people did not like me. One person who did not like me was named, Brian. Brain was white and always pointed out the fact I was coloured. For example, he put a brown marker next to me and told me I was the same colour and even threw dirt at me. As a kid I was too scared to tell the teachers because of the fact Brian and his friends would make fun of me even more. According to Canadian Red Cross, "Over half of bullied children do not report being bullied to a teacher." I believe my experience as with many other experiences of bullying are indifferent. Many people, especially other students do not care to help or stand up for the person being bullied. I have seen other students watch me while I was being bullied. For this reason is why I say bullying is an indifference that occurs very frequently. What Brain and his friends were doing to me was an injustice for multiple reasons. Firstly, I was being bullied for the colour of my skin. No one can change the colour of their skin or chose their skin colour, so it is not fair for someone to bully one about it. Another reason why it is an injustice is because in article one of Human Rights, "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights." Therefore it is not fair that I am being bullied for my skin colour because it is in the Charter of Rights and Freedom. The action that should be taken against the bullies include; telling a teacher and standing up for myself. I should have told a teacher because they would have stepped in and told him to stop. If he did not listen to the teacher, she would have contacted his family where he would have stopped. Secondly, I should have stood up to myself to Brain. Maybe if I stood up for myself by telling him to stop or threatening to tell a teacher he would have stopped.      Littering is a very common indifference we see happen everyday. Whether that be at the park, on lunch break, or going to the beach. Many people rather throw their garbage on the road rather than holding it for a garbage can. As citizens we add on to the indifference because we do not help to pick up the garbage. Although littering is not an injustice to any people, it is not fair for the environment. As we have seen over the years, littering has gotten worse and worse because people do not care. Said by wwf.org, "Litter dropped on the streets doesn't stay there. Rainwater and wind carries plastic waste into streams and rivers, and through drains. Drains lead to the ocean!" This also includes lakes such as Lake Simcoe which also have a littering issue. The plastic waste end up hurting animals such as turtles and other fish. Therefore, it is an injustice for animals especially sea creatures when peoples litter. There are many actions that need to be taken against the littering problem such as adding more waste cans and community clean-ups. Firstly, the government should add more garbage and recycling cans in higher populated public spaces. For example, Kempenfelt Bay on Bradford street, where a lot of littering tends to occur.   Secondly, cities such Barrie should host more community clean-ups. The City of Barrie says, "... nearly 17,000 residents participated in the annual Spring Into Clean event, tackling roughly 140 locations. Volunteers collected 6.47 tonnes of garbage..." As we see in the past community clean-ups have worked, so we should continue to use them. An indifference that I have personally seen done is irresponsible thinking. For example, when someone does not turn off the light when leaving a room, leaving the water running when someone is brushing their teeth, and wasting food. These are all indifferences because many people are too lazy to do these things, such as turning off the light. When people do irresponsible acts like I mentioned, they have no concern about forgetting to turn off the water for example. With people not engaging in responsible behaviour, there is an injustice towards; the environment and other different communities. Firstly, when people use single use plastic, it contributes to pollution in cities. Many people when using single use plastic litter. With majority of plastic waste ending up in oceans and lakes, it can pollute the waters and harm animals. As Climate Patrol said, "Plastic also contributes to climate change: plastics are environmentally costly to make and dispose of, they emit greenhouse gases as they dispose..." As we see in the quote, single use plastic also contributes to climate change affecting everyone on Earth. Secondly, when people are irresponsible with resources, it creates resource inequity. This means when one city or country continue to use plastic for example it disrupts the economy causing it to be more expensive in other places. Action to be done against irresponsible behaviour include education and awareness also encouraging responsible behaviour. Firstly, if children are taught lessons such as turn off the light or turn the tap off when brushing their teeth, they will learn it. Teachers should teach the kids the negative impacts or consequences of not doing certain things. Their should also be more awareness such as advertisement and posters. Secondly, people should be encouraging others to do these certain responsibilities such as turning off the lights when not in use. By knowing what indifference is, we can now know how to solve it. The first way of solving indifference is raising awareness about indifference. You can raise awareness on social media, television, or posters. To raise awareness you should educate people on what indifference is and different ways to prevent indifference. For example, you can explain to someone that indifference, "requires an active effort to pay attention and to express caring." The second way of solving indifference is by telling people to build connections among each other. When people start giving charity, helping out in the community and donating, it really helps them stay positive. It brings back the caring and empathetic traits one used to have. Another way to solve indifference is by celebrating success. When you celebrate something happy, whether that is someone's birthday, reaching a goal, or receiving the job you always wanted. You should celebrate everything because it brings a positive attitude to someone. Also when your in a positive mood, you feel more caring and engaged with others. Using your voice is also another great thing everyone should do. The first way to encourage someone to use their voice is by leading by example. For example, you stand up for someone being bullied so others can follow your footstep. More and more people will follow on to your example because watching someone do it brings more comfort. The second way to encourage people to use their voice is by actively listening to what people have to say. When someone realizes that people are listening and caring about what they say, it gives them more confident to use their voice. The last way to encourage someone to use their voice is by education them on how powerful everyone's voice is. Show the person examples of people such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks.
