Good Luck Class of 2026. You have each been blessed with an amazing brain and a superb education. Make the most of them. Life is a journey and the paths which look most interesting usually lead to fulfilment and happiness, but if they turn out not to you can always back-up and choose another one. Aim high and follow your passions and dreams (however cautionary the careers department might be 😉 No names Mrs Guy, but I made it!). Above all else strive for joy and positivity and enjoy the ride.

This is not an end but a start….. There’s so much joy and reward to be found beyond BGS - with an amazing time at the school standing you in the right place to seize it all. Look after yourselves and eachother as well - that’s important.

Plenty to remember and I completely agree about continuing to socialise and exercise. On the day, read the questions carefully and remember the discipline - use the mark allocations to drive your time allocation. Don’t sacrifice easy marks chasing “hard” marks.

Always read the questions twice, make sure that you are clear about what you are being asked to do. Take time to plan your answers - this may take a couple of minutes but it is the foundation for well structured and relevant answers. Good luck!

Remember to get outdoors for fresh air and exercise - your brain needs it just as much as studying!

Don't put too much pressure on yourselves, you can rewrite your story for years to come, this isn't the be-all and end-all.

You are capable of more than you know!

It will be over before you know it!

We’ve all been in your position and it’s safe to say we know just how daunting these exams are, but please remember that these are another stepping stone in life, not something that defines you! You’ve all worked so hard to get up to this point and that in itself is an achievement, so please don’t let that all be forgotten over the exam period. Whether you think you’ve absolutely aced these exams or leave the exam hall thinking that it’s not your best work, just remember that your future is bright! Your time at BGS has set you up for life far beyond your academic abilities, so no matter how you do or where you end up, the possibilities are endless

Exam/Revision tips: PRACTICE PAPERS!! Don’t neglect the topics you know you struggle the most with (guilty), highlight/underline key words in the question to keep your answer focused

Honestly, I know how stressful these exams can be, but just remember that everyone, your friends/family/teachers are there to support you; every one of them wants you do ace these exams. If you are stressed out about them, that just means that you want to do well - remember that. And know that no matter how these exams go (you will all be brilliant), there is still so much ahead of you. Although they may seem huge right now, when you look back, they will seem a lot smaller.

Exam/revision tips: SLEEP, it is so important. Rather then trying to pull an all nighter and cramming in information, getting a good nights rest is just as productive (even if it doesn't feel like it at the time). You've probably heard this so many times before, but start early, it will also make you feel much more relaxed when the time comes.

Good luck to the class of 2026! You have all had a wonderful time at BGS and made life long friends I imagine, I know that I did!

You are the newest group of Old Bristolians and as Chairman it is my privilege to welcome you to our society. The OB's is fantastic, and offers a fabulous network of OB's with a wealth of experiences that we are happy to share as well as as help as you move through your exciting lives ahead. There are also some great fun events, that we hope you will attend if you can.

The best way to keep up to date with the OB's is to engage on the socials!

It probably feels like everything depends on these exams right now — but speaking as an OB, I promise that your results don’t define you.

Work hard, read the questions carefully, and remember to look after yourselves along the way. You’ve already achieved a huge amount just getting to this point.

Enjoy your final weeks at BGS, make the most of the time with friends, and welcome in advance to the Old Bristolians community — it’s a great one to be part of.

As you come to the end of your time at BGS, I wanted to wish you all the very best with your exams and your next steps!

Whatever happens on results day, remember that your grades don’t define you- they are just one part of your story.

To all students about to sit your final exams...

Although it was many years ago, (1986, to be exact!), I can still clearly remember sitting in those exam rooms at BGS, doing my A' levels. It all felt so important at the time, and I know it probably does for you right now, too.

Here’s something I’ve learned since then: exams are just one small part of your story, not the whole of it. Try not to worry too much. Take a deep breath, trust in the work you’ve put in, and simply do your best. That’s all anyone can ever ask of you.

Do your best, and leave the rest.

I totally messed up my A-Levels didn't get to my chosen university course - best thing that could have happened to me! - Ended up being able to choose what I wanted to do at my own pace. Enjoy the exams - yes really! But don't get too stressed, seometimes the plan B is the better path!
