The Negro stood for full blooded black and the Negro descent stood for mulattos. Conditions for the African American group. For the working men and women in this group the annual income did increase after the civil war up to 75% more on profits for non-farm workers.  Lots of African Americans decided to up and leave during the 1900s to avoid oppressive economic conditions in the hope for a better life. They traveled west bound.  Lots of the food choices were limited to black-eyed peas and candied yams, cheese and stewed greens. Meat was limited for example a regular meal would have chitins which were pig intestines. But those moving north and west had its benefits but they still in the work force had to deal with discrimination even though slavery had ended in 1865. Living accommodations were still poor and crowded.
