Insects Vs. Plants

Most humans do not like insects. Insects can bite you, get in your food, and annoy you; especially those pesky flies. A couple of plants that eat insects were used to make a new design for humans. The first plant, is the Venus Fly Trap. The Venus Fly Trap has trigger hairs in the opening. When an insect touches these triggers, the plant snaps closed. This was used in the design.

Another plant that was used to make the design was the Sundew. The Sundew has sticky tentacles sticking out of it. The tentacles slowly bend to move the insects so they can be digested.

The researcher also looked into a spider web for catching insects. Spiders use their webs to catch and eat their prey. The spider web was used in the design to help catch the insets and make sure they don't get loose.

In the first prototype, the designer used properties from the Venus Fly Trap and the Sundew. The prototype is shaped like a Venus Fly Trap. It also has sensors that will cause the opening to snap closed like the Venus fly Trap. The prototype has sticky sensors on the top of it to catch insects. This was adapted from the Sundew Plant.

Insects seem to be attracted o bright shiny objects, so the sticky gel-like substance is sparkly.
