What things are you now able to express in Spanish that you have learned in Spanish II?

I can now express many things in Spanish. I am able to talk about myself and the things I like. I can also talk and write about what happened in the past in both preterite and imperfect tense. I am also able to talk in the progressive tense about what was and is happening. I can tell stories in the past by using the imperfect progressive and the imperfect tense. I am also able to talk about a variety of topics such as school, family, food, and shopping.

Yo tuve que tomar la clase de matemáticas, la clase de ciencias, la clase de historia, la clase de Ingles, y la clase de Español. Mis profesoras eran muy informativas y inteligentes.

Me gusté la comida en España. Me gustaba comprar las frutas y las verduras en el mercado en España. El mercado tuvo las uvas, los plátanos, los aguacates, los frijoles, las zanahorias, y mucho mas. En España, me gustaba comer en los restaurantes en España. En los restaurantes, yo pedía las milanesas, las paellas, y arroz con pollo. Eran muy deliciosos.

En mi tiempo en España, yo compraba mucha mi ropa en las tiendas. Yo compraba mi ropa en la tienda de ropa y compraba mis zapatos en la zapatería. Yo compraba muchas cosas en liquidación. También yo compraba muchas cosas en el mercado aire libre. Yo compraba artesanías, cerámicas, y muchos recuerdos también.

Cuando yo tuve que salir España, yo volé en un avión. Yo conseguí mi tarjeta de embarque en la agencia de viaje. Yo fui al aeropuerto y abordé el avión. El avión, desembarcó con destino a Los Estados Unidos.

What differences have you seen between the Spanish language and your native language?

Spanish and English are very different. Spanish is not as straight forward with sentence structure as it is in English. Spanish is not able to be directly converted to English. Spanish usually has to have words rearranged in its sentences, so it is basically impossible to go directly between English and Spanish. Spanish also uses verbs differently. Infinitive verbs in Spanish have to be conjugated using different endings based on who is doing the action. This is very much unlike English where the verbs are more straight forward.

What did you find interesting and exciting about the Spanish culture?

I am very interested in many of the cultural aspects of Spain. Their architecture is very cool, and I’d love to go there to see it. I am also very interested in the open air markets. There are no open air markets where I live, so I’d really enjoy going to some of those in Spain and experiencing them. I am also very interested in the food in Spanish culture. The Spanish food looks delicious, and I’d like to try some of it.

What do you hope to learn if you continue to study the Spanish language?

If I continue to study Spanish, I would like to try to become more fluent. If I get asked a question and need to respond directly in Spanish, I am slow to put an answer together because I need to become more fluent with the language. I also hope to learn more Spanish vocabulary words. I would like to learn more architecturally related words as well as more culinary related words. Those are my biggest goals if I continue to study the language.

Talk about your experience with learning Spanish in an online class.

Learning Spanish in an online class has been a very different experience for me. I am used to being able to just raise my hand and ask a teacher for help, but it is very different online. I have to text or IM my teacher to ask for help, but that isn’t necessarily a problem. It’s just different. Overall, the experience has been very good. I’ve enjoyed my time learning Spanish in this class.

What did you like about the course? What did you not like and/or could be improved?

I liked the way Canvas works. It is easy to navigate, and it is easy to make it through the content. All of the presentations go into great detail about the course vocabulary and grammar. This makes it easy to learn and go back to past concepts for review. I did not like having to do the RLCs. This is mainly because I had limited access to Internet, and it was hard for me to complete these assignments. Having the RLCs is a great idea. It is beneficial for students to see and hear the content straight from the teacher. This is helpful to students, but it is hard to do these with limited Internet access, but I do think these are a great way to learn the content.

What things did you do that helped you learn Spanish in this course? What things can you do to improve your own Spanish learning in the future?

The best things done to help me learn Spanish in this course were watching the presentations on vocabulary and grammar. This was the most effective way to me learning the language. I also tried to refresh the content in my mind regularly. This kept the content fresh in my mind so that I wouldn’t forget it easily. In order to improve, I can become more organized with my work. My notes and vocabulary lists were very scattered and disorganized. I could have used them more effectively if I had them organized better.

What things did your teacher do to help you with your learning? Was there anything that your teacher didn't do that would have helped you?

My teacher always reached out to me to ask if I needed any help. She checked in with me regularly to see how my day was going and how well I was learning the language. This was extremely helpful to me throughout the class. My teacher always did everything well. There was never anything that she wouldn’t do to help.
