Paleolithic

The invention of agriculture has been the most significant event in the history of humans, but it may not have been the best event. The Neolithic revolution allowed people to gain food surpluses and build settlements, but it also unleashed epidemic diseases, social and cultural inequalities, wars, and, ironically, famine. It is for these reasons that the Neolithic revolution was not a good thing for humanity as a whole. Done.

The Neolithic revolution had received more nutrition than agriculture. It is proven that the skeletons paleopathologist found, had enamel defects from malnutrition. Also, that they received more diseases. For example, anemia, tuberculosis, leprosy, and more. The nutrition that they weren't receiving also effected their height. During the Neolithic revolution, men were 5'9 and women were 5'5. As agriculture came around, men strink to 5'3 and women to 5'.

Just to clarify, the neolithic people are supposed to be in favor of agriculture, while Paleolithic people are in favor of hunting and gathering and opposed to agriculture, so I believe you may be arguing for the wrong side of the argument, because all the things you stated were reasons why agriculture was bad.

Thanks for clarifying that. Neolithic people have the opportunity to farm for their food and get the nutrition they need from crops and fruits, as well as Paleolithic people. They also have a more controllable food supply and it's practiced around the world today. Done.

While it provides a more controllable food supply, many agricultural societies depend mainly or entirely on a single type of crop. This keeps them from getting all the necessary nutrients, and also makes their crops more likely to fail. If a disease or pest comes and destroys one type of crop, that is all those people have. That is what allowed the Irish potato famine to happen. Hunter-gatherer societies have a more varied source of food, which allows for a greater variety of nutrients and it allows them to eat different things if one plant fails. Done.

Paleolithic people don't know if the animals they are killing has diseases or if the fruits are poisonous. Althoughit may be healthier, it's still more deadly. Neolithic people now have homes to live in and are more settled than Paleolithic. They also got the chance to get jobs in the New Stone Age.

If a single hunter gatherer eats a diseased animal or poisonous fruit, they may become sick and die. However, in Neolithic times, settled areas and new cities means that more people are living in very close proximity to one another. This means if one person gets sick, it is easy for that disease to spread to another person, and then another, and another until it has become an epidemic that kills hundreds or thousands of people. Also, Neolithic society does allow people to get jobs, but this allows for some people with "better" jobs to be held in higher esteem and paid more money, which is where social inequalities come from. People who get worse jobs are treated poorly and get paid less, so they become poor and eventually cannot afford basic necessities like food and shelter. People in Paleolithic societies would not have these problems, because they lived in egalitarian societies where people were, for the most part, treated equally. Done.

Hunter-gatherers have to worry more about their food supply than agriculture does. Nature is in control for them. They constantly think about what they're going to eat next and constantly moving to find food. There are only so many wild animals and edible plants for them to eat. I agree, it's easier to get sick from the amount of people you are around, but there are doctors for this issue now. There are plenty of ways to kill viruses. It's more common to get a disease from animals, where most diseases originated from. Also, Paleolithic people kill their infants because they can't support their children. Neolithic has the ability the support their children and woman don't have to work as much. Done.

While agriculture provides a more sustainable food source, as I mentioned before, if a crop fails for a season then the people dependent on that crop are basically screwed, whereas hunter gatherers are able to move to new areas and find new food sources, because they aren't dependent on any one crop. Although there are doctors in agricultural societies, for many years doctors only ended up making things worse, because their medical knowledge was so poor. They often ended up killing people when they thought they were healing them. And although women don't have to do as much physical labor in agricultural societies, this has allowed for them to be marginalized and discriminated against for basically the entire history of civilization, and children often did have to do a lot of work in the fields before new agricultural technologies were invented. Done.

Agriculture has money to purchase food also, so they just don't have to depend on their crops. As I said before, they have jobs and receive money to purchase more and support their families. Hunter-gatherers never really had time for their families and all they were worried about was finding food or they'll starve. They also have the advantages in interacting with other people. Doctors did kill off people, but they progressed. Many hunter-gatherers were killed from diseases, as said before. Food is easier to receive by man, than by nature. Done.

Going off what "Jerky" said about doctors progressing, the whole process of agriculture has helped us to progress. Although we began with the harsh virtues of social inequality and the difficulties of disease, agriculture is what allowed us the learn and adapt. With the growing amount of crops, we established markets and began to develop other things of value besides necessities like jewels. Through the Neolithic Era we formed cities and temples and got to where we are now. Done.
