In addition, some may also fear the naturalization process. On the other hand, there is a legal process already placed for people to naturally become U.S. citizens. What some people perceive is that these undocumented immigrants are cutting the line and leeching off America. However, people have also argued that many undocumented immigrants are hardworking and contribute to the economy. Some people have also mentioned that naturalization is a process that favors some countries over others, causing inequity in the immigration system. Of course coming to America illegally does do some harm. From what I know illegal immigrants are basically just ghosts in the system who aren’t documented in the government, which means that they use resources that were supposed to be designated for proper american citizens. But this perspective comes from a very detached overview of this issue, when you zoom in closely to a case by case basis, you’ll see that it’s a very nuanced situation. Some illegal immigrants come to America out of necessity, because they may not have a place in their country of origin whether it be their life is in danger or they can’t sustain living over there. Some may come and take that risk of coming here illegally because they have a deep love for their family and want them to have a better life than they had. And sure one might say “ why don’t they just go through the naturalization process like everyone else”. The thing is, that process is lengthy and people act in desperation, so it’s hard to ask them to spend one of their most valuable commodities, their time.
