In that year, a student posted a Snapchat complaining about not making the cheerleading squad, and the school banned the student from cheerleading squad for a year. The case was eventually taken to the Supreme Court over various appeals, and the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the student.

Their reason was: 
1. The student made the post outside of school, and that falls onto the grounds of parental discipline. 
2. Schools have no right to monitor student speech.
3. Such speech made no serious offense, it did not involve any more of cyber threat or harassment.

In the Bremerton schools district, the football coach Joseph Kennedy was banned from doing a prayer with the players before the game. Joseph Kennedy sued the school over this, and it eventually made its way to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court judge Neil Gorsuch claimed that Kennedy did not violate the first amendment, because his prayer on the school grounds are not forcing anyone to join them. He is not “expressing governmental ideas” as the school claimed. He is instead just showing his religious beliefs in a non-influential way.
