I have not applied for a place on the Undergraduate film & Media course as of yet because I haven’t taken a tour of the campus or have been to the Farnham campus on an open day as I had covid and couldn’t go. However, the course looks to be something that would suit me perfectly so i might just email the campus to get in touch with one of the Media tutors to get a further insight site into the course.

Even thought I didn't get a chance to look around the Farnham campus, I still looked at an online tour and looked around the website to gain knowledge of the campus and the courses.

The reason that I would like to study film is because I cannot see myself pursuing anything else. I want to study with you because I want to create films that help people. I want to create films that educate, films that help people to forget, that make people get so invested that they forget their problems if only for a moment. I believe that films hold so much more than what's on the surface and my dream is to help show that. I'm determined to make my dream a reality. I am applying to this course because it feels as though it is my 'calling'. What I mean by this is that I have never been a particularly academic person, but with film it felt less like learning and more natural, like something I should be doing. Before film, nothing in school felt right to me, everyone had one subject they understood, film was mine. With film it feels as though I have always wanted to know more, I would watch and study films in my free time because it felt as though it wasn't work it was fun and intriguing, everything I have learnt felt as though it unlocked a new door. That is why I want to join your course. I have been fortunate enough to have found my love for a subject this early in life and I would like to explore and expand film until there are no new doors to uncover. I know that the industry that I am attempting to go into is extremely difficult, but I feel as though I must try. I have experienced being on a low- budget set as part of a short film project I got involved in a couple months ago. Although, I was in front of the camera it still gave me a chance to experience a real set, even if on a smaller scale. I also have developed a real love for script writing which was vaguely touched upon in my GCSE film class. Since then, I have found different software's that assist with script writing such as Celtx. Most of what I learned to do with scripts have been self-taught using copies of scripts such as 'La La Land' and 'Little Women' as well as various script writing books. I found this way of 'documentation' helpful as it allowed me the freedom to investigate the possibility of my ideas fully. My first ever film lesson came in the form of GCSE's. The second was PQA (The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts). I joined PQA because out of the three hours a week they offered, one was film and that was enough for me because it allowed me to experience directing and gave me a lot of confidence as to what occupation in film I wanted to pursue. Third is UCA (University for the Creative Arts) where I am currently studying foundation creative media. Since being at UCA I have been taught film from many different angles that I was unaware of or didn't have enough knowledge on such as Foley art and rotoscoping. I found this course to be beneficial in my knowledge of all different jobs surrounding film as, it gave me a deeper and more in-depth understanding of many jobs in the industry I strive to become a part of. I love film and I truly don't know what my life would look like without it.
