Hi Future Teachers! My name is Meghan Thorogood and I want to congratulate you on all you have accomplished! In 2019, I graduated with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. This past May, I graduated with my MAT in Elementary Education and a Certification of Completion in Special Education. I completed my internship/student teaching at E.C. Stevens Elementary School in Wallingford. One thing that I think is important is to make sure you advocate for yourself! This is YOUR experience. Do not be afraid to talk with your mentor or someone from Quinnipiac to voice any and all questions or concerns.
Last year at this time, I was in your shoes and I know I had many questions going through my head. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or wonderings! (:

I also just graduated this past May with my MAT in Secondary Education. I was fortunate enough to complete my internship/student teaching back in my hometown at Simsbury High School. One thing I wish I knew before starting my internship was how important it is to get involved within the community at your school! Getting myself more involved throughout the school definitely enhanced my experience throughout my internship/student teaching.

Hello there, future stars! My name is Rudy Serricchio and I graduated with a BA in History (2019) as well as my Masters in secondary education this past May of 2020. I was blessed with the opportunity to do my internship/student-teaching (majority of it) at Hamden High School. One thing I wish I knew before starting the internship was how time consuming it was between the internship/courses through Quinnipiac. Balancing what is honestly a full time job along with on campus schooling can be overwhelming but as long as you plan properly, you should be golden! :)

Hi Future Teachers! My name is Da'Jhon Jett and I want to welcome you all to Grad School at QU!! Congratulations on all that you have done, to get you to this moment! I graduated with a BS in Finance and I am currently pursuing my MAT in Elementary Education and I am also cross endorsing for Secondary Math (7th-12th grades). During the 2019-20 school year, I completed my internship at Shepherd Glen Elementary School, in Hamden and luckily enough, I am going back to Shepherd Glen as a Resident Intern, where I will be with a 6th grade teacher for the entire 2020-21 school year. Compared to a lot of the folks in my cohort, I would definitely say I had one of the best placements ever! One of the best things that I did was to become involved in my school community and I accomplished that through participating in after school activities, volunteering for different field trips, always being available to lend a hand before and after school, and just being an overall team player from day 1. I will say, my mentor teacher was the perfect choice because I would go to her with concerns or questions and she would always validate my thoughts and then offer me some feedback and guidance.
The internship, plus having a full load of classes can get tough, I even did that all while holding another job outside of all of this. The important thing to do is to just plan, plan, plan. And if you are in need of help, the School of Ed faculty are super amazing and always willing to work with you, for whatever. They truly mean everything that they tell you during your interactions: being helpful for their community, being a voice for their community, and supporting their community.

Again, welcome to Grad School at Quinnipiac and I hope to be able to see you all on campus at some point.

-PS this picture is pre-COVID, so thanks to the multiple months spent in quarantine, I now have a full beard, so if you see me, just say hi!! I love to chat, as you can see from my long post. Sorry :)
