Like the Italians, many single Greeks came over to work on the railroad and in the mines. Greece was very poor at this time so they hoped to earn money and send it back.

Men decided to stay longer and their wives would move over from Greece to join them in Utah. Many began to work in the copper mines or opened bakeries, restaurants, coffeehouses, hotels, and grocery stores.

The Greeks faced a lot of discrimination and they would often be paid less because they were Greek and they would strike so that they would be paid what they deserve.
