Normal gas exchange in the body occurs in the lungs . O2 is transferred out of the alveoli into the blood by the process if diffusion. CO2 is transferred into the alveoli. O2 is then taken to parts of the body that need it. CO2 then exits the body. This process then repeats itself.

With asthma, is makes it very difficult for gas exchange to occur. The airway is not as big as it should be which limits the amount of air that can go in and out. This makes it difficult for O2 to enter and CO2 to exit. This means there is less O2 going to cells. The lungs are narrowed which makes it hard air to move in and out. The process is slowed down .
