This post was initially compelling for me because compliments that focus on personality rather than appearance are my favorite kind of compliments. I found my mood to be boosted more with these kinds of compliments rather than just "your outfit looks good" (although that compliment is still nice). This post focuses on this by spreading radical self-love to other people.

I chose this post because it exemplifies the idea of "being seen in the body you are in". Instead of this individual choosing to cover up their unique birthmark, they opted to flaunt it by adding an accompanying tattoo. Whether it is a birthmark, physical deformity, or visible disability, posting what makes you stand out is a way to make resistance an everyday action. This post may also encourage others to do the same through normalizing the differences among us.

I chose this post because I believe it showcases the idea of using our bodies to fight social standards and norms that have been set in place. Body hair is a completely natural part of our existence but society has conditioned us to view it as not, something to hide or get rid of. Although this does not appear to be a big statement it is an individual not only accepting body hair as normal but embracing and showing it off. This is not to say one can't choose to shave or not grow out their body hair but by breaking away from these cultural norms and individuals celebrating things like body hair they are also challenging these social norms using just their body, encouraging others to follow and normalize their own uniqueness.

I chose this post because it exemplifies the idea that healing takes time, especially when you are healing within. Working to heal your mind, body, and spirit takes time and effort. Instead of repressing recovery, radical self-love is working to accept challenges and embrace them. This post is especially compelling as the message is portrayed through the challenge itself. This goes on to emphasize the importance of accepting struggle and lifting yourself through hardships to find a total sense of self-love and appreciation.

I chose this post because it connects to the humanizing effects of acknowledging that we are not all doing okay at all times. This post illustrates that feeling bad and just doing your best is acceptable and that you remain seen even when you are just trying to get by. Everyone goes through mental struggles, and by acknowledging them and moving forward to move forward, we are controlling the stigma surrounding mental health.

I chose this image of Lizzo because I think it embodies the idea that “a radical self love world is a world free from the systems of oppression that make it difficult and sometimes deadly too live in our bodies.” Up until recently, people who have larger body types were never portrayed or represented in the media. This image of Lizzo is compelling because she posted on instagram to her 11.7 million followers to see. She is an inspiration to young girls that look like her and she is going against what was once known as conventional beauty standards. Too often people with larger body types are shamed for the way they look and dress, which leads them to taking dangerous steps to transform their bodies.

I chose this post because it conveys the message that society's beauty standard doesn't define our beauty or self love. People with vitiligo usually tend to cover up as a result of feeling ashamed and not being able to fit in to the "beauty standards" but this post stood out to me because the person is showing that you can have vitiligo and be a model.

I chose this post because it incloses the ideology of self importance. The post itself wants to leave behind the message of self prioritization because at the end of the day, we alone are all we have. Often times, we do not grant ourselves breaks and we are too hard on ourselves which can cause mental and psychological abuse. Nobody is perfect and we as humans should come to accept ourselves for who we are. Our body and mind will follow us for the rest of our lives!!!

Danae Mercer is an influencer who I have been following for some time now. I stumbled on her account when I was looking for more truly body-positive content on Instagram, and I was struck by how honest her posts are. Some body-positive posts still don't appear real, and I appreciate how dramatic the comparisons are that she makes. As an athlete, I have always compared myself to other girls. For a while, I thought that we were supposed to be in elite physical shape while also being in elite asethetic shape. Posts like Danae's have helped me literally see how bodies look from different angles while I have simultaneously come to the conclusion that body fat percentage does not determine athletic performance.

I chose this Instagram post because it reminded me of both the negative and positive influences that social media plays on our mind. Social media presents a warped image of what the normal 'self' should look like, causing a wide variety of self esteem issues and in extreme cases sicknesses for individuals all around the world. This causes someone to only see what is wrong with them and the ways in which they don't fit the regular beauty standard. However, there is also the side of social media that is presented in the image above. Over the past few years there has become a large platform that promotes body positivity and the concept of loving yourself no matter how you look and what stage you are in life.
