I used to think that the IB would publish assessment objectives for each of the middle school years. Now, I realize that there are guidelines for years 1,3 and 5.

I used to think that Years 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 would have individual strands per year. Now, I understand that it is more streamlined for have individual strands for three of the five years. It also allows for schools to plan their transitions between strands as "soft" or "hard."

I used to think it would be great to have content handed to me... Now I see the wisdom of different schools in different countries and cultures having the liberty to select content that is more relevant to their own students.

Now I think that exposing them to different genres in world literature will definitely make them love reading and literature.

I used to think that we teachers can create our own objectives and definitions of each skills. Now I know that it should be standardized and progressive.

I used to think the command terms for the objectives are more or less similar to every curriculum framework/ curriculum. Now, I understand that IB command terms maybe different and more explicit than thise I read before in HK curriculum. Moreover, not only the teacher should be familiar with the terms, it's also possible to provide visible definition for students who are expected to achieve these objectives

I used to think we could find our content from the sources in our library. Now I think i will be exploring the web to find different publishers, different authors around the world, and even use translations from different languages to expose my students to different perspectives. This will be a welcome , though time consuming, challenge!
