I felt that it was about time that transitioned from being a student to a working professional and I needed to start planning about how I can achieve my goals. In terms of looking for a job, it can be likened to a marketing strategy to sell one’s value and skills to a company. All the time locked away at home made me think through many things especially what I want to be in the future. Even more so with the course Job Skills and Career Preparation, I had to made sure I verify and clear my plans. My goal is to become a software engineer creating and maintaining software at an established tech company.

Having these qualifications will make it easier for me to search for jobs and opportunities for interviews. However, those qualifications are the initial requirements. The next things I need are sufficient programming and software development knowledge so that I could stand out in interviews. The last thing I need to reach my goal is motivation. Motivation will allow me to keep going despite the challenges that comes when trying to attain my goal.

The first one is related to my ability to work in a team. I had initially thought I would not be able to work or develop software effectively in a team before I had my thesis. However, as soon as I was working on my thesis in a group of 3 developers, I realized that my performance was not that bad at all. I realized that I could even make better software with the help of other people which I really liked. The second thing I learned about myself is something related to communication. I had originally thought that if I ever were to look for a job or start working, I would not be able to talk to anyone about my ideas. However, after having worked for a short time in a startup company, I realized I could present my ideas if I just structured it properly. I even joined podcasts where I would communicate my opinions and answers to people.

I would also need relevant software development skills and knowledge for interviews. Motivation, passion, and an open mind are also needed when working towards my goal and vision.
