Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Brundtland report). Universal design (UD) is design usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design. UD has potential as an important tool when it comes to the transformation towards a sustainable, diverse and inclusive society. UD shares the goals of “inclusion”, “access” and “participation” with “social sustainable development”. I believe UD has potential as a useful tool in the sustainability toolbox and would be interested in exploring this further.

If you find this interesting, please contact: charlotte.magnusson@certec.lth.se

My name is Pierre Tichit. I am currently finishing my PhD degree on the visual ecology of bees at the Biology department, and I wish to do a post-doc on projects that more directly contributes to the sustainability of human societies and of their interaction with the environment.

In light of covid-19, environmental crises and political uncertainty, I would find it relevant to investigate the academic process itself, and to identify scenarios where researchers and universities both reduce their negative impact on the environment (e.g. in term of carbon footprint), and increase their resilience against socio-economical instabilities. Concretely, I think that the current global pandemic has shown the dependence of researchers on international mobility to perform field experiments, travel to conferences, etc, but has also highlighted promising alternatives such as e-conferences and remote working. I propose (without having myself more knowledge of this field than my own academic experience) to build an interdisciplinary research project at the boundary between social, political and environmental science that gathers both quantitative and qualitative data in order to better identify ways to optimise the resilience and sustainability of academic research in face of environmental and societal dynamics.

Feel free to contact me (pierre.tichit@biol.lu.se) to discuss potential collaborations.

I am looking for postdoc position related to sustainable water management in urban areas, planning process, water reuse and nutrient recovery systems.
