If a student is losing control or needs some space from the classroom/others, they should go to a safe, designated spot in the building to cool down. While the student is calming down and refocusing, they should be reflecting on their actions by filling out a written response or action plan that explains what will be done differently when re-entering the class.

While this reflection can be done on paper, it can be more efficient if done using technology. A fillable form can be created using Google Drive/Forms.

This strategy rewards the class as a whole for good behavior. Doing this prompts students to regulate behavior among themselves and holds one another accountable for the success of the group.

Social media can be used to post classroom rules/procedures, consequences, etc. Behavior management tools such as Class Dojo can be used to track positive behavior.

Teachers should maintain regular communication with families regarding academic, personal, and behavioral success. This can be done by calling home, in-person conferences, and written notes home. When there is unity between teachers, families, and students, everyone benefits.

While the traditional form of communication between home and school was usually written notes or phone class, technology has been able to make this quick and efficient. A behavior management tool such as Class Dojo can be used to provide families with information on how a student's day was. Remind is a app that sends messages to phones in the form of a text message. Teachers can send messages from their computers/tablets or phones. It does not use the teacher's personal number.
