Not much is known about the origins of Sardinian dance.
It is believed that it may derive from the prehistoric sacred ceremonies celebrated to propitiate abundant hunting or a good harvest, and that represented not only a fun, but also the expression of a community.
This theory would be confirmed not only by the use of launeddas to accompany the dances, but also by their link with the fire: even today, in fact, on the eve of some country festivals, the fires are prepared, around which dance. Furthermore, the fundamental figure performed by the dancers is the circle in which all the couples hold hands, and from the rhythmic and melodic point of view there is a close link between the performer of the music and the dance, which confirms the importance of community union during the most significant moments of social aggregation.
It is unclear whether at the beginning was the voice of the man or the instrumental accompaniment to lead the dance. On the other hand, it is certain that the accompaniment to more voices is of more recent use.

the characteristics of the Sardinian dance

The Sardinian dance requires a high technical specialization of players and dancers. During the dance all the dancers hold hands or arms forming a circle that rotates clockwise. The basic movement is a rhythmic indifference similar to a jerk in which the trunk participates above all, on which the various steps are grafted, each of which closely corresponds to the musical rhythm, and which must be accomplished with composure: the upper part of the body must be kept rigid, while mobility is entrusted exclusively to the lower limbs.

tammurriata

The tammurriata is a traditional dance of Campania.
Until a few decades ago, the term tammurriata designated only a song-instrumental repertoire, while currently it represents a complex family of drum dances.
It is performed in a vast area that goes from the lower valley of the Volturno, the Casertano, the circumvesuviana area, up to Agro Nocerino, the Nolano and to the Amalfi coast.
In a broader classification of Italian ethnic dances, tammuriata is included in the southern tarantella family, of which it is a specific and original subgroup based on the strictly binary rhythm, on the participation in the dance exclusively in pairs, on an intense dynamic of the arms, on the use of chestnut trees which, in addition to providing the basic rhythm, requires a particular kinetic of hands, arms and torso.
The dance takes its name from the fundamental binary rhythm that is marked with the drum. The "tammorra" is a large frame drum painted with tin rattles, with possible accessory decoration of ribbons or polychrome paintings and bells.
