Gaining weight is about energy balance when you consume a surplus for your calories for a period of time, it would cause you to gain weight and when you have a consumption of excessive calories above your TDEE, accumulation of it would cause an individual to gain excessive weight which leads to obesity. To add on exercise / increasing activity level would increase the calories burned, so obesity is not an alone problem where we look on the individual's diet alone.

Food preferences/ choices are made by an individual which would lead to the food intake/ calories intake.
It is also the individual choice on whether to make the initiative to do physical activity so as to maintain the weight. To do this, the energy input must be equal to the energy output.

I agree that obesity is an individual problem. This is because they choose what they eat knowing how it will affect them. They would be able to reduce their risks of obesity if they choose to eat a healthier meal or choose to eat healthier foods.
However, obesity is also a societal problem nowadays. Improving transportation results in less exercise for people because they take trains or taxis instead of walking or cycling which will increase their risks of obesity. Unhealthy processed foods are a lot cheaper to buy when compared to healthy whole foods which is why people who are not that rich will resort to buying processed foods.

When we eat fattening food such as fast foods and unhealthy food, we will become fat as we do not plan our diet. When we eat excess of what is needed for our body, the excess is stored and especially fats will be stored making us obese as they cannot be broken down further as
our body do not need it. If we eat right and plan our diet right, we will be able to stay fit and will not be obese as we plan our diet and we know how much nutrients is needed to be consumed for our body to function properly and effectively.

It is far too easy to obtain unhealthy food nowadays. More people eat crap throughout the day which would lead to obtaining high levels of macro nutrients which would in turn lead to obesity. So, yes i agree obesity is an individuals problem as it is their choice to have an unhealthy diet

To manage his calorie intake and output and to have physical activity daily. Different areas of society such as the government and family can encourage and promote healthy living by different campaigns. One of such campaigns is like the National Step challenge where people are encouraged to take 10000 steps a day.

The problem of Obesity stems from various environmental factors surrounding the individual such as advancement of technology and transport, accessibility to food (fast food, vending machines), financial problems, culture and influence of family on the individuals lifestyle.
However, having said this, Obesity can be controlled by the choices that the individual makes.

Obesity is , ONLY a certain point an individual's problem, as i feel that whatever the individual eats is what he or she wants to or choose consume , therefore , the individual has the power to control what he or she wants to eat. The problem comes in , when , he or she has all the information in the world using the internet as to which foods have more calories , but actually choose not to adhere to it due to weak mental strength.
External factors like food availability, food accessibility also affects food preferences as well.
However , not all is to be blamed on the individual , as family and friends are also to blame for not giving motivation or advice on what food to consume or not. Government also plays a part as well because the government can regulate how many fast food restaurants there are in the country.

I agree that obesity is an individual's problem as all of us needs to eat essential nutrients in order for our body to have proper body functions. Some individuals eat more then what is needed for personal reasons (for diet, recovery or leisure).
However it is not entirely an individual's fault, as people are affected by their environment and the people around them. These 2 factor affects an individual's actions. Let's say John's family are all obese and be comes from a rich family where food are readily available. This will encourage John to eat more and care less of his health as it is common in his family.

I believe that obesity is an individual problem depending on the circumstances. However, obesity can be caused by several factors such as differences in lifestyles, lack of knowledge and/or habits or cultures established. Differences in lifestyles can contribute to obesity as different countrys/locations can cause a person to adapt their diet according to the location's cilmate. For instant, a person who used to live in cold country may require to eat a large amount to produce sufficient energy and heat for their body. However, in a warmer cilmate, they may need to decrease their amount of consumption gradually as they no longer have the need to stay warm.
