This is one of my favourite intervention in İstanbul, Marmara Forum Cloud Playground. The playground designed by Carve Architecture. It was built in 2020. They are the iconic landmarks of a new open-air playground on the roof park of Marmara Forum, a shopping center in the Bakirköy district.

Adjacent to Beyazıt Mosque, the Library is located in the Beyazıt Square that is connected to the spine of the historical peninsula, Divanyolu.

Pop Up Park Istanbul aimed to find an answer to the question of how public spaces in modern cities can be designed multifunctional and used in different ways.

Burak Can Bülbül - Apartman 18

Apartman 18 is a residential building in Erenköy, Bağdat Street. It was constructed in 2014.
One of the main features of the building is a vine plant-like facade, which represents the 1970s vineyards before their destroyment by blocks.
The spiral texture of the facade is a connection between the city and the ground, just like a landscape element. I love this project because of the brave, energetic, and powerful attitude of the architects.

In my opinion, these angled walls and glazings create an unusual space perception. With these features, this project is a great example of Modern Architecture in Turkey.

Parkorman Park is a large-scale and idea project in Istanbul, designed by DROR.
Architects claim that Istanbul is a city with few existing green spaces, and they were questioning how can a city like Istanbul does not have a central park. Their main idea is a create an interactive central park in Istanbul.
The main concept is to feel different moments, such as transition, clarity, creativity, reflection, observation. They wanted all the users to have different and unique experiences.

Armağan Çağla Keleş - Beşiktaş Fishmarket

Beşiktaş Fishmarket ,which is in Beşiktaş, İstanbul, is a public building which many of us probably walk past before. It was designed by Gokhan Avcioglu and GAD Architecture in 2009.

Considering the feature of the district where the neighborhood life continues despite its density, a form that is open to public and inviting was worked on. The triangular market area, which is an important haunt for those who want to buy fresh fish, creates an iconic appearance with its shell-like roof.

Sule S Celik - Vakko Fashion Center

Vakko Fashion Center is located in Altunizade, Istanbul. It was designed by REX and completed in 2010.
Even though it's in the middle of the city, it's actually isolated from the chaos of Istanbul. You only notice it when you try to beat the traffic of the bridge. Due to its glass, steel, and mirror facade, it actually blends with surroundings. I am fascinated by the design process too. Just like we did in our freshman year, they actually played with cubes!
In the beginning, the site already had a construction, which was abandoned, but since the CEO of Vakko wanted the whole building to be up and running in a year, REX architects decided to keep the existing structure and add the necessary parts as they realize their proposal and the existing project has the same features.

Sule S Celik - Serra Gate

Serra Gate was an experiment made by GAD in 2015. They wanted to questions the relationship between the building scale and object scale. In an interview Gökhan Avcıoğlu stated that "Serra Gate will make the residents of Istanbul question how public spaces have been defined by urban interventions."

This is one of my favorite building in İstanbul. It’s designed by Pei Cobb Freed & Partners Architects LLP and completed in 2015 as commercial building. Also it’s located in Levent,İstanbul.

Contemporary architectural principles and technology were applied in the most innovative way. The design deliberately avoided today's ordinary skyscraper architecture. The different form obtained by the reflection of the front and rear facade lines parallel to the road on the ground and the different façade surfaces provided by changing the angles with respect to the fixed side facades, offers different perspectives with surprise for the citizens at different points.

Sara Abuzaina - KANYON

It was designed by Tabanlioglu Architects in 2001 and was completed in 2006 , it is a mixed use building as it contains offices , stores, entertainment facilities and public spaces that are surrounded by man made landscaped gardens in the city center of Istanbul.

I like this building because the users can experience the canyon effect by walking by a central open air walkway that has soft curves following the 600 foot long canyon that opens to a performance plaza.

Sara Abuzaina - Istanbul Aydin University Pedestrian Bridge

Fatmanur Şimşek - Özyeğin University Faculty of Architecture and Design Building

The faculty was designed by BG Architects and was completed between 2009-2020 in Çekmeköy. The connection between the campus and the main square is designed by reflecting the facade character. The interiors have different levels and functions.
I liked this building because, I feel warm when viewed from the outside thanks to the natural looking materials used on its facade. It also provides a harmonious environment with the forest view on the opposite side.
It designed in the form of open lofts, the studio and collaborative work areas provide visual contact between students and offer a completely transparent contemporary learning environment and allow new interactions in the landscape-building-human triangle.

Ecem Naz Çetin - ARTER

Arter is Istanbul's main pedestrian artery for culture and arts and now it has moved to its new building in Dolapdere in 2019. New building designed by Grimshaw Architects,London. It has 18.000 square meters of indoor area in addition to exhibition galleries, performance halls, a library, an arts bookstore and a cafe.

Fatmanur Şimşek - Göztepe 60. Yıl Park

The southern part of the park, namely the sea side, is a tulip and color garden. The north side is designed in a baroque garden style.

 There is a ornamental pool in the middle of the baroque-style garden and there are seating around it. There is also a large rose garden and a large gathering place. 
 I like this park because it has calm and peaceful sitting and resting places every day and every hour of the week. I spend a lot of time here because it is close to my home, especially during the pandemic process. It is also designed for disabled people.

Armağan Çağla Keleş - Havai Bahçe

Havai Bahçe was a temporary flying garden in Ortaköy Square and is designed by SO? Architecture. Restricted by the existing elevation in the square, this garden with different plants provided shade and created a sitting area throughout the International Garden & Flower festival which was held in 2016. The fact that the garden is not on the ground ensures that the movement in this very used square is not interrupted. It is also possible to take a closer look at the plants in pots that can move with the roller system. Each pot of the aerial garden hangs between the sky and the Bosphorus, like a tree with a different branch.

Ulugöl Head Office project has built on 2013 and it is located in Atasehir, a popular residential and business district in Anatolian side of Istanbul. Project is designed as eleven normal floors sliding on each other,
creating cavities that turn into terraces.
This building is very attractive for me because of it's shape, and its' facade design. The building seems modern with it's colors and materials with different shapes on each level also the building's shape has successfully integrated with it's facade design and it has harmonious semi-open spaces.

Taksim Pavilion is located on Taksim Square which is highly dense area in Beyoğlu district. It has built on 2020.
In my opinion this pavilion is a logical solution for dense and important places because of it's high capacity and less volume. It is also located in very central point so that it may used as a meeting point or could be a good choice to wait for something.
On the other hand it can attract tourists as a photography point. Via it's rising structure it may allow to take better pictures.

Sancaktar Cami one of the interesting architectural projects in Turkey. The design approach to the traditional mosque architecture shows the difference of Architect, Emre Arolat. C. Tuğçe Yılmaz-GARANTİ BBVA TECHNOLOGY CAMPUS

Garanti BBVA Technology Campus  is in Pendik district of Istanbul.Transforming an old industrial chemical factory land near Sabiha Gökçen Airport into a technology campus by ERA Architects between 2012-2018.The project has a design approach based on the desire to create a clear contrast to the unorganized urban texture around it based on the natural topography around the land. In this context, the campus is designed with a 'crystal' main volume, which is gently placed on a few artificial hills covering the volumes of the building and accommodates the working spaces.
In order to achieve this structure, the main structure of the building is reinforced concrete slabs on the office floors; On the lower floors, an exposed frame was designed as a structure. The office spaces covering the outer wall of the building are console operated with lengths varying from 4.5 to 11 meters.
At the same time Garanti BBVA Technology Campus, the largest green roof system in Turkey is hosting one of the application. The design, shaped by environmentally friendly approaches, is one of my favorites with its modern and environmentally friendly nature.

Santralistanbul is a project signed by Emre Arolat,Nevzat Sayın,Han Tümertekin,which started to serve in 2007 and includes museum,recreation and education facilities.An abstract design path was followed by taking the old function into consideration and re-functionalizing it. The two boiler rooms are connected by glass bridges. Nevertheless, it can be said that the contemporary art museum building has a strong connection with today's modern architecture with its gray, mesh facade.
It is a very old building adapted to today's modern architecture. It is one of my favorite buildings because it does not lose its old character.

Melike TANGERLI - Besiktas Fish Market

Fish market, which is one of the architectural intervention we have passed hundreds of times and maybe did not notice, was built by GAD Architecture in 2013. Since Beşiktaş Fish Market is located in one of the busiest places of Beşiktaş, the design must be in a structure that invites people. The Fish Market should not divide Beşiktaş's existing human traffic with the semi-commercial semi-public space it creates.
Therefore, the new design is placed on a triangular area with 3 legs. Care has been taken to ensure that the design is permeable and dynamic.

Sky Garden is a suspended garden in Ortaköy Square, istanbul.Based on the existing ground in the square, this garden with various plants, provides seating and shadow during the festival. Being suspended, the garden acts as a roof which people can stay under and watch Bosphorus. Just like a tree with different branches, the garden flies between the sky and the Bosphorus with each pot, while the pulley system lets the pots go down for a closer look of visitors.

The Selcuk Ecza Headquarters is an office building in Istanbul that looks like a cluster of small houses connected through roof gardens, patios, paths and atriums. The building, designed by Tabanlıoglu Architects tries to redefine the typology of office architecture and give it a warmer home-like feeling. The five-story building was built for a pharmaceutical company whose owners, an elderly couple, wanted to build an office space that would look and feel more like a house. This air of domestic space was given to the structure by treating it as a small county settlement, with seven smaller volumes connected through different green surfaces and patios. The volumes have a hipped roof and feature a facade that looks like its made from wood. A bridge leads to the main entrance located on the ground floor, while the first floor houses offices for managers and partners, dining halls, activity rooms and VIP lounges. The interiors are bathed in natural light thanks to the building’s transparent sides. In order to increase the efficiency of passive climate control, the architects introduced an envelope designed as a mesh system.

This is a structure with a futuristic character that rises as a dynamic and organic form out of natural beauties. On the basis of the design process; It has a strong relationship with where it is located. The design story of the project begins with the transformation of the park walkway in Küçük Çamlıca Grove, which is separated from the natural ground with a thin line and connected to the entrance mass, and transforms into a cruise road overlooking the Prince Islands-Kadıköy view.

Çamlıca TV and Radio Tower is actually a reflection of its nature. The topography where it is located was reflected in the form of the building. The main inputs of the tower design are the dominant wind direction, landscape focuses and the strong connection of communication systems with the main carrier. It has a stance independent of any urban fabric. It has an organic structure that the eye is not familiar with. Originally there is an axis of symmetry in itself. There is no front-back, it is deformed according to the landscape by using the axis of symmetry. The face facing Asia is different, the part facing Europe is different.

The building has gone under both structural and architectural renovation that require the redesigning of the entire interior and the façade.

Mina Velioğlu - Göksu Office

Göksu Office was designed by Nevzat Sayın. The office building is on the Anatolian side of the Bosphorus; not right on the shore but a little further inland, along the Göksu creek. The lot is exceedingly narrow. The building is constructed on the traces of two tiny dwellings that used to be here: these traces serve as guidelines for the locations and silhouettes of the building and the open spaces.

it has 54 floors and its 238 meters tall.

Özyegin University Faculty of Architecture and Design is the young structure of the ÖZÜ Çekmeköy Campus project, which BG Architects and ARK-itecture offices have been working on since 2009. The building aims to be liked by the elevation and functions in the character of the diagonal facade established with the main square of the campus and in the interior. Other studios and co-working spaces in the form of open lofts offer the highest level of visual contact between students, perhaps these teachings, and allow new interactions in the landscape-building-human triangle.

This is one of my favorite buildings in Istanbul, I love its triangular shape, I can never get board from looking at it. It was designed by the architect Henry N. Cobb, it is a 170-meter tower with 35 story’s covering 90,000 m2, it was completed in 2014. And located in an exceptional site at the heart of Istanbul’s new central business district (Levent). It have won many awards internationally. because of its beautiful exterior, it looks simple but complex on the interior and structure as it have different story's configuration. and although the architect is not Turkish, the interior designers focused on integrating the contemporary and Turkish design together to give it a strong identity. P.S in order to understand this building you have to look at it from all the views as this one picture does not give the full design.

The aim of the project is to design Zorlu center, as an alternative urban space for Istanbul. The main feature of the plantation language is to treat the landscape as a succession of Bosphorus grove and yet to perceive it as an integral part of Istanbul. The green shell which surrounds the structure in third dimension associates with the hill of Istanbul that was once used as the recreation areas of the city. This new built up niche, is adopted as an urban square that will turn out to a new social experience and yet, it is erected as a new kind of nature that will erase the existing idea of shopping mall. TERMINAL DESIGN IN ISTANBUL AIRPORT/MIRAY ÖZTIMUR

The terminal design at the airport, which has a unique design that combines modernity and functionality, takes its inspiration from the cultural heritage of Istanbul. The richness of Istanbul mosques, baths, domes and many other historical buildings at the Istanbul Airport terminal are elaborately processed into the project architecture. The motifs used in Turkish-Islamic art and architecture provide beauty, texture and depth.
Despite its size, the terminal structure was designed with an open, horizontal space that fits discreetly into its content, and internally, the vault ceiling and its geometry are designed to give a sense of direction for people moving from the land side to the aircraft side and also along the length of the terminal. The roof and layout design, on the other hand, has the feature of strengthening passenger flows and enhancing the customer experience with intuitive navigation. Roof openings provide natural daylight, highlighting key areas in the terminal such as check-in, security, passport control and retail store environment.

I live 10 minutes away to Apartman 18 that is why this building is interesting and beautiful at the same time. Also me and my family had the chance to visit inside an apartment that i loved. Even though i love the outside and its unique, its not suitable for most people to live in because of its geometric shapes. In total it has 11 floors: 1 basement garage floor , 9 housing floors and 1 roof with a pool.

Sancaklar Mosque - Emre Arolat

This is probably my favourite contemporary structure in Istanbul, it's also located in my hometown. Sancaklar Mosque located in Buyukçekmece, a suburban neighborhood in the outskirts of Istanbul, aims to address the fundamental issues of designing a mosque by distancing itself from the current architectural discussions based on form and focusing solely on the essence of religious space.
The project site is located in a prairie landscape that is separated from the surrounding suburban gated communities by a busy highway. The high walls surrounding the park on the upper courtyard of the mosque depict a clear boundary between the chaotic outer world and the serene atmosphere of the public park. The long canopy stretching out from the park becomes the only architectural element visible from the outside. The building is located below this canopy and can be accessed from a path from the upper courtyard through the park. The building blends in completely with the topography and the outside world is left behind as one moves through the landscape, down the hill and in between the walls to enter the mosque.
The interior of the mosque, a simple cave like space, becomes a dramatic and awe inspiring place to pray and be alone with God. The slits and fractures along the Qiblah wall enhances the directionality of the prayer space and allows daylight to filter into the prayer hall.

Mahir Erdem Sayır - İpera 25

İpera 25 is designed by Alataş Architecture & Consulting and located in the historic and protected district of Istanbul’s Galata, Ipera is a 10 flat building that goes beyond the conventional codes of the area. To describe it simply, the building is constructed around two blind walls made of fine concrete and a glass façade and wooden shell that cover the fully transparent living quarters. Perceived as a giant blind façade from an angle, the wooden surface can be seen as a tulle curtain that filters the light and works as an element that controls the sunlight . Respecting the current architectural fabric, infrastructure, natural conditions, climate and sun movements, and developing socio-economic conditions of the area, the project prepared by the architect Ahmet Alataş for the 1000 m2 large building is built around a design that uses today’s technology.

Ecem Naz Çetin- Taksim Pavilion

The pavilion is an amphitheatre made up of two wings that connect to the square through steps at both sides. The stage becomes an activity platform surrounded by two tribunes that face each other. The steps are made of wood modules that are placed on a steel structure. The stage hosts a surface of 180m2 where dance, theatre, music or spontaneous performances can be watched.

Under the amphitheatre an exhibition space includes an overview of the history of Taksim square. The envelope is made of thin steel elements that become also the handrails above.

I find this intervention really effective because of the social impact it does to urban life. Before this intervention the space here was just a road for vehicles. This urban transformation happened in 2019, and the space created here is proposed by Leku Studio which is a central point between blocks, the area became an effective socializing and resting area for the public, where there was no life before but an intersection for cars to pass through. I noticed that the floor painting really adds up to the texture of the public space and the greenery ofcoarse is introduced in this innovative approach. To me, it seems those neccessities comes to life where there is a deprivation in quality of urban life.

Moving Dunes designed by NOS studio is called a large-scale mural rather than a public space. However, in my opinion, the project has an impact on people to gather or experience that impressive mirage-like path. Manipulating the street surface and with that playful and fascinating approach, they define an extraordinary public space. Also, instead of pavements, people have the whole road without cars to walk and experience this art piece. I think that kind of wide pathways is needed in big and crowded cities like İstanbul.

I think urban squares are one of the important examples of public spaces and they are the gathering points of the community. We can also tell about the urban life by observing the public squares. They are important for the city considering the sociability of people of the neighborhood. And the ancient examples shows that they’ve always been an issue. An experience that I had at a workshop in Barcelona helped me observing them really well. We were supposed to explore the city and then focus on a topic to create a video about it later. Public spaces in the city took me and my group mate’s attention and we decided to work on it. We agreed to observe different public squares in the city the whole day and take photos from time to time. It was a really nice experience to see how the square takes a place in people’s daily lives and it was a common place for them no matter what age or who they are. The experience has helped me understanding the importence of public spaces better because the city that I lived in my entire life had only one similar example and it was only in the city center and took time to reach for those who doesnt live in the city center. I think public spaces should also be easily accesible. These are some photos I took while observing Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia.

ESKIŞEHIR HAMAMYOLU URBAN DECK

Created using recyclable wood composite, this ‘Green pedestrian axle’ consisting of landscape elements, water systems and dense plant texture creates modern and mobile meeting spaces stretching from Odunpazarı to Porsuk River.
The first of the basic principles of design in the project was to strengthen the connection between Odunpazarı of Hamamyolu Street and Porsuk River on an urban scale. The historical fabric of odunpazarı is connected to the Badger River by a continuous pedestrian axle. The project aims to create a new Green belt by re-giving life to the historical fabric. Designed using recyclable wood composite, the project created a seamless urban platform.

You can feed birds or tame squirrels. Picnic can be enjoyed almost anywhere. Hyde Park provides a unique habitat in the heart of London for a variety of flora and fauna species and has wonderful rose gardens.It is a park where various sports activities can be done and leisure time can be picnic or spend time with the view. It is a great example of how people can socially use a public park area. And also Hyde Park is one of the 12 most valuable green spaces in the world.

Opened in February 2019, this park has become a new meeting point for Izmir residents. Inside,there is a ferry pier, tram stop, seating areas and a pebble memorial statue. There is also a bicycle path in the Karantina Park, which is one of the most preferred places of people, especially on summer evenings.

The locals of the city prefer to go there to get away from the busy life of Istanbul. Also, a lot of tourists visit the grove as well. Waterfront Seattle is a project that has initiated by the City of Seattle. It has many steps, a promenade, a highway connection, a bike path, at least 3 piers, a railroad, 2 bridges, 2 squares, and 1 seawall also the port of Seattle, the Seattle Aquarium, and the Dock are involved with the project. The project has started in 2010 and designed to finish in 2024.

The thing I love the most about this project is, from the start, they ask the community about their needs and they continue to work with the "Seattleites". They live-stream the construction process over their website and they are really transparent about everything regarding this project. You can find everything on their website, easy to access.

Abbasağa Parkı
In this project that we also see in our school is located in Abbasağa District, Beşiktaş. People who live in that district come together at day and night time and this park brings people together. In this project the most I loved part is, it is compatible with the environment, the topography, streets, neighborhood and people. When you come to the Abbasağa district, you can see the park at right of your arm in Maşuklar Yokuşu. This park also have a historical meaning for Beşiktaş. People have come together with this park in concerts, activities, teatres and also protests. The construction and architect info is mostly unknown but in many resources they are claiming that reconstructed at 1940's and main architect is Davud Bey and Garebet Balyan.

Domino Park, New York's newest public space, opened on Sunday, June 10th. It is a tall public park located just north of New York's Williamsburg Bridge. V-Plaza is located in Kaunas, Lithuania and was built in 2020. Designers had some challenges while designing this plaza because of it’s historical and architectural background but I think the result is very successful and outstanding. One of the things that’s impresssed me about it’s design process is that they’ve studied the movement of padestrians and worked with grids which’s created spaces for users. And it provides users the spaces and activities in a very harmonious way because of the forms that the grids create. There’s a skate park, water playground, event area, basketball court, sunbathing area and protected resting places. In my opinion, providing free activity areas for users at public spaces is very beneficial for society. Because public spaces are the gathering points of the community without any discrimination and they should allow everyone to do some activities other than just taking a walk by themselves or sitting at a bench and enjoying the weather. From this point V-Plaza would have contributions to society and it’s unique design would easily attract people.

I have a great admiration for Japanese architecture in this respect when it comes to minimalism and the efficient use of small spaces. I look at this architecture with envy every time because it has the most important features that a public space should have for me.

Especially in crowded countries such as Japan, public areas that take people away from the density of cities and rest are very important. These are the two things that I can see in Omoken Park. This area, with its open air and material, gives the feeling that it has been separated from nature between the buildings. It has a great place and conditions for people who are tired of this density in the city to throw themselves into a spacious place and do other activities. At the same time, this collective area, which provides the connection between two streets, does not restrict the visibility of the people passing through the streets with its semi-open design and creates a functional area while using the area efficiently. I look forward to see it in real life.

The Selcuk Ecza HQ is one of the few modern buildings I can recommend. In addition to the selection of materials and harmony with green, the hipped roof forms adds modernity to the building. In my opinion, the realization of large glass blocks made instead of small windows that are far from modernity on the facade makes it more spacious and welcoming.

New Atatürk Culture Center, Tabanlıoğlu Architecture: New Atatürk Culture Center’s construction has started in 2019 and still beign constructed. The plannned opening will be on 2021. The project is located near Taksim square, which can be defined as the center of İstanbul. Design also contains contemporary elements such as simple squared form with the usage of non-traditional openings. The building is highly functional and will contain cultural spaces inside it. Design might lead people to use these cultural spaces such as opera halls and theatres. Also the open space usage might be considered as efficent.

This campus was designed in 2007 by Emre Arolat, Nevzat Sayın and Han Tümertekin. This project is the modern industrial settlement established between 1910-1950, the renovation of the Silahtarağa Power Plant and my reason for choosing this project is the well-renewal and protection of the area. Only the foundations of the demolished boiler rooms remain in Santralistanbul, and the design process has been designed taking into account the functions of the boiler rooms, so a timeless modern look has been achieved and I think this design idea can bring a different perspective in the future. When we look at the building, we see that the two blocks are connected to each other by glass bridges, the structure consisting of reinforced concrete walls and floors combined with steel columns and I think that it is a modern structure with this feature.In short, the originality of the project has not been spoiled and has adapted very well to the present day.

the sapphire building by Tabanlioglu architects (2010) measures at 55 floors and 239.4 m. the exterior of the building also features a curtain wall however it makes minimal use of sharp edges. In my opinion, a stand our feature in the mass is the curved surface connecting the vertical and horizontal blocks of the building. The transition is very fascinating and highlights a contrast between the Kristal tower, itself and its surroundings.

The Şakirin Mosque, located in uskudar, was opened on May 2009. This mosque was designed by Hüsrev Tayla and Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu, the first female interior designer to design a mosque. The dome of the mosque is made from aluminum composite, the minbar is made from acrylic, and the façade is finished with stone and aluminum mesh; the mosque was reported to be "the most carbon-neutral mosque in Turkey". The layout of the mosque is based on traditional mosque architecture due to its courtyard with a central fountain that is surrounded by the cloister leading to the prayer hall inside the mosque. In contrast to traditional mosques, the Şakirin mosque is surrounded by glazing on three facades stirring away from the traditional light source that is focused from above in ancient mosques. These glazings are placed between the arches that support the dome.

Selcuk Ecza HQ by Tabanlioglu Architects, İstanbul, Turkey• Architects: Tabanlioglu Architects• Year:2013 The building consists of seven houses next to each other with a hipped roof. I think the reasons why it is a modern building: The garden, terrace and terrace balconies are integrated with the courtyard and air circulation is taken into consideration while designing. Apart from the office environment, areas where you can spend time with many different functions are taken into consideration. The brown color used in the exterior is integrated with the environment and greenery. It has achieved a dynamic appearance with the harmony it makes on its roof and mass.

One of the most important factors that attracted my attention to the building is when I examine this building as an architecture student, I can say that the façade character, light, connection with campus and interior space provide all the necessary conditions for students. Design studios and co-working areas designed as open lofts keep the interaction between students always warm and offer them the opportunity to study in an innovative environment. In addition, by decorating the transparency it uses on its façade with natural-looking materials such as corten and basalt, it does the forest view more beautiful and even modern. b)Pilevneli Gallery is an art gallery and exhibition designed by EAA in 2017 in Dolapdere, İstanbul. The first thing that I can observe in the project is the façade design, which is based on the typical Dolapdere structure but adds a modern touch to it. The gallery , which contains the works of both local and national designers, is a good example to see that modern and city’s own texture can be in a harmony together.

The antrepot building's transformation into a museum was a movement to re-introduce the art culture in istanbul's historic district, the old reinforced concrete structure was not touched and kept in use for this repurposed building, The inner part seems to give the industrial sensation of the past in which we can see steel elements such as the stairs and exposed ventilation pipes on the ceiling and also the introduction of red lightings gave a whole new atmosphere to the building. as a result, the building seems to be perfectly modernized in contemporary standards.

The Vakko building was left unfinished as a reinforced concrete building previously built for the hotel. Rex architects have achieved the modern look of this reinforced concrete building by adding a complex steel structure and special glasses. The cross view of the carriers visible from the exterior and the mirror like of the capsule at the top make the building stand out. It is built on an area of 12 thousand 500 square meters. In the center covered with a special glass resistant to fire, earthquake and water; Ultra thin glass with increased resistance, consisting of 172 panels, is applied on an area of 855 square meters. The building has floor structures that surround the central area at night and give a circular appearance despite being square.

It was designed as an office high-rise building and what I really love about this magnificent tower is not only being one of the tallest buildings in Europe with a hight of 185 meters, but its special design triangular wall rotating 33 degrees for optimum solar responsive skin with double skin curtain wall to further reduce the heat loads. Its skin design is taking cues from Ottoman geometric motifs and draws inspiration from surrounding local landforms. also there are three sky gardens that provide a thermal buffer between the exterior and interior and give access to fresh air and a respite for office workers.

A building with modest lines of modern architecture. It has a structure whose functionality and lean lines are at the forefront. In this modern architectural structure, which we can call "Bauhaus" style, Seyfi Arkan designed a pavilion with an "L" shape in plan, on steel construction legs nailed to the sea floor. Dividing the two arms of this L into two for living space and service areas, Seyfi Arkan resolved the service areas on the branch perpendicular to the shore, and on the branch parallel to the shore, Atatürk's study room, meeting room and bedrooms were resolved. Reflecting the important architectural features required by its period with its plain façade, the pavilion has geometry and aesthetics, which formally expresses the modern architectural movement.

It is built in 2010 and it is 9100 m². In my opinion this looks very magical the way its connecting with the sky and reflecting the colors around it makes it beautiful. The design is actually really basic but with its location and the way architects used the glass makes it modern to me.

This place was built by the municipality of Istanbul, thinking that Atatürk would be good for his illness in the last period of his life. The project construction, whose architect was Seyfi Arıkan, started in 1935 and was completed in 43 days. Atatürk Deniz Köşkğü has a single floor and is located on large piles. It is an L-shaped wooden building made with specially designed materials and fittings. With the restoration work done today, it has undergone a large-scale renovation and some of it has been changed into reinforced concrete. The building, which is quite simple and modest and designed in Bauhaus style, is an example of modernism in Turkish architectural history and is one of the modern buildings in Istanbul.

Ottoman Bank Building, Salt Galata, is in Karaköy, Istanbul. It was designed by Giulio Mongeri, it was opened in 1928. Modernism is not just newly created elements, but also how we transform the ones built almost a century ago to today. Therefore, Salt Galata is one the examples I would use. It’s usage of the original entrance, combined with the modern elements, such as a glass elevator, wooden workspaces, colorful ceiling etc. fascinates me every time I visit.

Hilton Bosphorus Hotel (Midterm Make-Up Submission)

Year: 1955

That project is one of the oldest modern Turkish architecture project in our architectural history. The hotel building is huge rectangular prism-shaped with simple geometry with a surface simplicity and understated with decor and functional priorities. Also for the material usage, in the construction time 1955, the Hilton Hotel building is one of the first huge concrete block complex in Istanbul. By the way, we may say that building and the others have started the concrete block ecole in Istanbul's modern architecture.
