This painting shows a landscape with trees, houses and a field. As I said, this painting's type is a landscape and the artist created in during impressionism. He used the oil on canvas technique and it measures 50.2cm by 101cm. It is housed in Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
This painting depicts a stunning evening landscape of the local castle, viewed from the fields near Auvers. The artist used warm colours and it feels soft giving us serenity.
I personally feel calm and warm. I think that the artist wanted us to feel the same way as he was may feeling. It gives really peaceful and serene vibes.

                                              Helen Kosmidou
A'1 Γ.Ε.Λ Αμυνταίου

Still life with two sunflowers, 1887, Van Gogh

The painting shown above is a part of two still-life series that Van Gogh created during his lifetime. One in Paris(1887) and one in Arles(1888), the latter was dedicated to his friend Paul Gauguin as a gift for him since they intended on becoming roomates. It was painted in the post-impressionism period and it measures 43.2x61cm, the technique Van Gogh used to create it was oil on canvas.
The contents of the canvas are simple and raw. It depicts two sunflowers either fallen or cut and placed on the ground, perhaps it has been a while since their harvest since they look doleful. In the palett of the flowers and the background we see a cold and a warm color overpowering all the others, blue and yellow, as well as an overall bright light shining.
From my point of view this painting wasnt meant to have an immidiate meaning. However, art is relative and what it conveys to me is a balance of intertwined positive and negative feelings. The background is cold but the sunflowers bring wamth along with the rays of light falling on them, that reminds one of the beautiful moonlight on a full moon. In short it externalizes calmness and quiet not necessarily good or bad.

Tokmakidou Christine, A1, Highschool of Amyntaio

Bridge in the Rain (after Hiroshige)Vincent van Gogh, October-November 1887

Bridge in the Rain (after Hiroshige) by Vincent Van Gogh was created in October - November 1887 in Paris, France. It is a river landscape which is a painted copy of a woodcut that was created by a Japanese artist Utawaga Hiroshige, showing the great adrmire he had for the Japanese woodcuts. In addition, its painting technique is an oil on canvas and was painted during Impressionism. It measures 73.3 cm x 53.8 cm and is housed in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
This painting represents the natural scenery of pedestrians who are hidden under umbrellas as they cross a narrow bridge made out of wood. The artist made the colours more intense than the original painting and wanted to maintain the proportions so he left a border which he filled with Japanese characters copied from other prints. Moreover, in Van Gogh's Bridge in Rain, the colours are brighter, and the people on the bridge are further away from the viewer. The naive but unpredictable blue of the sky makes the sudden rain seem dangerous, possibly a reminder of nature's immense power. The painter mostly uses bright but cold shades of blue, red and green broken only by the yellow used for the bridge.
Observing this piece of art, heavy emotions of emptiness begin to rise as the people cross the bridge trying not to get wet while the rain rages continuously. Van Gogh may have wanted to illustrate the impact that Japanese art had had on him
and his art. By studying and mimicking the unusual pairing of colours in Hiroshige’s woodblock prints, Van Gogh found a new way to elicit strong emotions in the viewer, something especially important to a post-impressionist artist like him.

Meggi Chasalla
A,ΓΕΛ Φιλώτα

Starry night over the Rhone was a painting created in 1888, during post-impressionism by Vincent Van Gogh. The type of this painting is a landscape and the techniques that he used to paint it was oil on canvas. It measures 73.0cm x 92.0cm and it is now housed in Musee d'Orsay,Paris,France.
This painting was created by Vincent when he used to live in Arles, a city in Southern France. It depicts a night scene from the embankment of the Rhone River. This night scene encompass a night sky with some bright stars that reflect in the river.Furthermore, we can see the city lights across the river. Last but not least, in the foreground we can see several boats and two figures that appear to be having a walk along the riverbank. The colours in this painting are dark and quite bright too. The colours that prevail are yellow and blue.
While observing at this piece of art I feel very calm and peaceful. From my point of view, I believe that the painter may wanted to symbolize the beauty and peacefulness that a night can provide us with, since it is less noisy than the rest hours of the day. Also, I think he wanted us to appreciate the beauty of the stars.

Kliani Styliani-Agapi,A1,
Γ.Ε.Λ Αμυνταίου

Le père Tanguy, Van Gogh

The father Tanguy, a creation of Van Gogh, portrays a man sitting down and having his arms crossed. The painting's type is a self-portrait, and it dates to the impressionism period, with influences from Japan. The technique he used was oil on canvas, and it measures 65,0 by 51,0cm. Today, this piece of art is being exhibited to the Rodin museum in Paris.
This self-portrait illustrates a thinking man, looking ahead and having a calm standstill. This man was running a business with colors. Van Gogh was buying his essentials from him. In this way, the painter made three portraits of him, like an indication of his appreciation. In the background, there are some paintings with the nature to dominate, and elements of Japan. The serenity of this man comes to contrast with these paintings that have much information and many themes. The colors are bright and warm, a fact that express Van Gogh's attitude.
Giving an interpretation to this painting, I reckon that consists a sample of harmony and balance. The eyes of this figure are clear and bright, transferring the feeling of calmness to the viewer. In brief, this piece isn't only a painting that Van Gogh created in his life, is a window of escape of his gloomy life, that let him feel a little bit happy.

George Tsaheiridis
A1 Γ.Ε.Λ Αμυνταίου

The painting depicts golden fields of ripe wheat, a dark fastigiate Provençal cypress towering like a green obelisk to the right and lighter green olive trees in the middle distance, with hills and mountains visible behind, and white clouds swirling in an azure sky above. The first version was painted in late June or early July 1889, during a period of frantic painting and shortly after Van Gogh completed The Starry Night, at a time when he was fascinated by the cypress. It is likely to have been painted "en plein air", near the subject, when Van Gogh was able to leave the precincts of the asylum. Van Gogh regarded this work as one of his best summer paintings. In a letter to his brother, Theo, written on 2 July 1889, Vincent described the painting: "I have a canvas of cypresses with some ears of wheat, some poppies, a blue sky like a piece of Scotch plaid; the former painted with a thick impasto like the Monticelli's, and the wheat field in the sun, which represents the extreme heat, very thick too."

Αντώνης Μηνάς
Γελ Αμυνταίου

He is smoking a pipe and his emotions are not bad but they are also not good. In the background of the portrait I can see the painter uses yellow and red colours which are warm colours.

Lastly, I think the painter wants to provide us with a sad and a happy feeling for a man. Finally I think this landscape wants to symbolise the old lifestyle of a man and all the feelings they had in the last years.

Odysseas Olidis

A1 GEL Amyntaiou

«The Seascape At Saintes Maries» was a hand - painting created in 1888, during post - impressionism by Vincent Van Gogh. The technique that he used to paint it was oil on canvas. Given by the artist to Paul Eugène Milliet to take to his brother Theo van Gogh, Paris, in mid-August 1888.

Most of the canvas is a picture of the sea. The sea is turbulent, the energy disturbed by small sailing boats. The sea in Saint Mary is colorful and multifaceted.

Seascape at Saintes-Maries (Fishing Boats at Sea) was painted six years after Van Gogh wrote that he wished to paint a seaside painting of sand, sea, and sky. In this painting, the combination of a high horizon and boats, draw the audience into the choppy sea in the center of the picture.

The main image of the sea appears both fragmented and whole.

This pianting depicts a skull with a lit cigarette. This painting's type is a vanitas and the artist created it during being bored to death by his art education. The technique he used is oil in canvas and it measures 32*24.5 cm. It now hangs in the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam.

For this painting the artist used dark colours to give us a point about how he was feeling.

This painting symbolises a reminder of death and mortality, inspired by his father's passing or his own poor health at the time.

Melisa Xiteka, A Gel Amyntaiou
