I did not realize that Google Earth had a new version. I tried to access it on my current Apple laptop, but was told to try another device. What excited me the most about the new Google Earth was the 3-D button Matt referred to several times during the podcast. Being able to navigate through a city using  3-D capability will open up a new world for many of our students. With funds being cut in our district for field trips, this will give us a way to take our students on virtual field trips! Chris' idea that the technology person should be an innovative teaching and learning specialist (ITL) was right on target. Technology should be used to improve instruction. With a person like this on staff, teachers may feel more comfortable using new technology. Her research concerning the use of technology in the classroom supports my beliefs as a teacher. Always, learning first! Her 3 e's were: Engagement, Enhancement, and Extension. This is what technology should be used for. It is easy just to use a new technology tool in the classroom because it's exciting, shiny, and new, but Liz warned against it. Christine said that the program is highly successful and is serving grades 1 - 5 currently in the Boston area and around the country.  She is now working on programs for PreK and Kindergarten students. The programs are based on the children's natural tendency to build. Once again I listened to the exciting news of the New Google Earth. Since this is now web-based, it can be accessed easily on chrome books by students. In the new Google Earth, there are custom-made field trips. So amazing!
