In a herd it is easier to survive because one organism only needs to be faster than the slowest one. It is easier to hunt for prey. Part of the group can hunt while the other can be "lookout" for any predators. I was born into a family with two parents and 3 siblings. I have been able to see so many benefits to living in a group or family unit like many species do. I have learned how to share, communicate, be independent, work hard through the examples of my parents etc. I have been protected against homelessness, starvation, poverty etc from living with my family.
