I liked the idea of using trade books, I think that they can definitely be really useful in introducing students to other perspectives, and I liked the suggestion of dramatization.
I am also interested in the idea of the cooperative learning groups and definitely want to do some of my own research in to how to make those work successfully in a classroom, since I agreed that it might be more comfortable for students to work with peers, and that allowing them to learn from each other is helpful.

I believe that the teaching strategies listed are very effective in the classroom and have a lot to do with the performance of students. Keeping them engaged is essential to getting students to where they need to be academically.

I really like the teaching strategies that you talked about! one in particular that stood out to me was the socratic seminar because this was something I did not like as a student. The way my teachers presented it was that each person would have to speak 2-3 times, or else they would not get participation points for the day. I liked when you mentioned asking good questions and how we as teachers need to discover that more before we teach it to our students.

I really like the idea of Socratic seminars as a great way to get class discussions flowing. But I feel like it’s important to tackle those Socratic seminars a certain way because many students get anxious when they are instructed to speak in front of their whole class for a grade. I think using these class discussion but with a twist would be beneficial!

I really liked the strategies discussed in the presentation! I think the one that stood out to me was about teaching with cooperative learning groups because it’s important that students work with peers. This will help them feel comfortable and not feel judged by peers if they practice this strategy often. I also liked using a Socratic seminar as a strategy because it allows the students to share their ideas and work off one another without the teachers guidance, it’s student led which I think is important.

This is something I have always been skeptical of to try out with younger elementary students. But I can see in today’s world how important it is to put structures in place where students can share opinions and listen to others opinions, and then have a safe discussion in a structured environment.
