The painting shows Judith in the middle of decapitation, her maid standing by her and Holofernes with his mouth open, for a gasp or scream. The dark red background, the strong light on Judith and Holofernes, the angle of holofernes' shoulders along woth judith's arms and sword are all part of baroque style painting. While she knows she is being gruesomely stabbed in the heart multiple times, all she can feel is love and ecstacy. Bernini has every aspect of baroque possible. There is stong lighting from right above the two main figures, who have stong angles and movement. There are also two boxes holding people as an audience to this vision.
Upclose, Saint Teresa's face is open mouthed and her eyes are closed, almost peaceful looking in her pleasure. Bernini tells of right before Bartholomew's death, where he is flayed alive by a man holding his device of death like a cross. The man about to flay him looks at him in what could be surprise, that a man about to die looks so content. The facial expression of Bartholomew is so important in this painting, as he knows of his death but is still unmovingly faithful in the plan. This would make paintings look very dramatic to really mesmerize the audience. Using baroque technique in the art would help tell a more emotional story, as shown in the three artworks of this exhibition.
