By the Neogene Period the Earth was much cooler , and by the beginning of the Quaternary Period much of Earth was covered with glaciers. The Cenozoic Era was known as the Age of Mammals. In the beginning of the Paleogene Era there where mammals that survived the end of the Cretaceous Period. Later in this period there was rodents and small horses. By the end of the period rhinoceroses and elephants appeared. The Neogene Era was the first early primates, including early humans. Also cattle, sheep, goats, antelope and gazelle.
