What I Learned

I learned from this course just how involved technology has become in the day to day classroom in the school environment. Even in comparison to when I myself was in school, the environment is nearly unrecognizable with all of the changes and advancements that have been implemented. I am both blown away, and ecstatic as a teacher in the making at all of the possibilities and different teaching approaches that technology opens up in schools.

I noticed that a lot of the technology tools were able to link together, through hyperlinks etc. I think it would be fun to do a sort of adventure that takes the reader through different technology tools as they go. Possibly telling a story within a lesson. Each different technology tool is so unique that each could be molded to a different part of the story, like different rooms, or scenes! I think this would be both fun/engaging and would require that the student either shows, or learns the finer points and uses of each tech tool.

How This Course Met My Expectations

The only expectations that I had coming into this course were how it would be graded, as i have had Dr. G as a teacher before, and a rough idea of what some of the assignments would be like after hearing friends retell what it was like for them. This course definitely met those expectations, and as they say, hearing it and doing it are very different things!

Having had Dr. G as a teacher before, its speaks for itself that I sought her out as a teacher for this course as well. I am a firm believer that if the same content is taught by several different teachers, the amount of learning that happens will vary by just as much. That is to say that the teachers approach, style, and passion is a greater indication of how much a student will learn. I am in college to become an elementary educator, and I cant stop recommending Dr. G's class enough. There are 3 teachers that I have met while I am in school to become a teacher that I aim to model my teaching style after, and Dr. G is one of them.

Myself

As a student who has taken several online classes, as they allow me to work the hours I need to work to pay for them, I have placed expectations upon myself that I raise every semester as I gain experience. In this course I know I could have done a lot better. I am a straight A student type, and say that with confidence. In this course, I did not attain my standard that I expect of myself. However, I know where I went wrong, I know how it came to be, and I now know what I can do to prevent it in the future. Online classes are all about organization and time management, and even though I did not attain the grade I desired, I'm confident that I've become a better student and person by learning from my mistakes!

How I could improve

As stated before, I did not reach the level that I expect of myself in this class. I know that the problem primarily rose from organization. I did not submit a major assignment in this course by the due date, and failed to recognize that I was able to turn it in within the week for lesser, but still some credit. This is something that I have taken steps toward fixing by setting up a reminder schedule specifically for school on my phone. I have it set up so that I can simply type in the dates for assignments to come in the approaching weeks/days, and then on every Sunday I can look ahead, take 5 mins to enter them into my phone, and have my personal tech tool help me to become even more organized.

The Implications

The implications that I can make about using technology in the classroom are nearly all positive. I personally have a lot of experience with technology in general, and am a major advocate for all of the ways that it can help people in their daily lives. I believe that technology tools in the classroom are no different. I believe that a major part of being great at teaching, is understanding all the different ways that there are to be taught. There are several different types of learners, visual, audio, hands on learners, and the list goes on. With the way that technology tools can present information is different ways, I believe they keep up in pace with the different types of learners. The tech tools that we covered in this class are not even close to all that exists. In fact more are being made all the time. I cant wait to see what will come next!
