You can google "Jugendfonds" + "your region". Jugendfonds are part of the German programme "Demokratie leben". For each federal state and some cities, there is one organisation responsible to administer the funding. You can apply as a group of young people with your idea and get up to 600€. The idea can be i.e. a charity concert, a political event, urban gardening etc. - anything for the community! They also advise you in the application process and are generally really helpful :-)

(Link above leads to the organisation that gives out the Jugendfond in Hagen, the Information is in German and for searching about this topic, you might need a lot of German (or a friend/colleague that can help :))

This is a useful website to find a doctor in Germany - it is also possible according to which languages they speak. But also - you can also use Google Maps, and ask your hosting organisation (they might have already a list of doctors that their previous volunteers had good experiences with :))

Hier ist eine gute Website, um Ärzt*innen zu finden. Ihr könnt dort auch nach den Sprachen filtern, die sie sprechen. Außerdem könnt ihr Google Maps benutzen und eure Aufnahmeorganisationen fragen - in vielen Fällen haben sie auch eine Liste mit Praxen, mit denen ehemalige Freiwillige gute Erfahrungen gemacht haben.

You can buy cheap textbooks from Second Hand Stores( Humana, etc.)
Stadtbibliothek (City Library) - in most of them, you can get a free ID Card as a volunteer and then borrow books, incl. textbooks for free
- Watch out for Language Cafés hosted by Stadtbibliothek, many of them organise this for foreigners
Watch Cartoons or read / listen to Children's stories and fairy tales, as they often use easier German language

Advertise your need to learn German on eBay Kleinanzeigen / find a tandem partner through that platform

After doing a long-term individual ESC, you can still do ESC Team Volunteering Projects! They...

can last between 2 weeks and 2 months
are full-time activities (between 30 and 38 hours a week)
you volunteer with people from at least 2 different countries
the group will be between 10 and 40 volunteers
is usually abroad, though it can be in your home country
cover food + pocket money, accommodation, insurance, travel costs etc., just like your current individual ESC project

In Germany, meeting others through a hobby (sport, music, art, etc.) works best! We are not really a culture that hangs out on the streets without some 'organised' activity, so in order to meet people your age, it's best if you google ways to join sport clubs, a choir, a theatre group etc.

When you lack ways to start your search, ask your hosting / coordinating organisation for some advice!

In Deutschland ist es einfacher, Freund*innen durch Hobbies zu finden (z.B. Sport, Musik, Kunst, etc)! Wir treffen neue Leute am liebsten in organisierten Aktivitäten, und nicht zufällig im Park... Also, um neue Leute kennenzulernen ist es eine gute Idee, in einen Sportverein einzutreten, in einem Chor mitzusingen oder eine Theatergruppe zu finden!

Wenn du eine Idee brauchst, wie das am besten geht, frag deine Aufnahme-/Koordinierende Organisation!
