I wanted to drop out of AP SO SO bad because I was really struggling and he would not let me. He kept telling me that I had it in me and he could see it, but I couldn't yet. I begged and cried and my parents sided with him and I was so angry with him for a while. Towards the end of the year, I realized that he was the first teacher I ever had who actually pushed me and showed me that things in life are hard and you have to tough them out. School was always "easy" for me until his class and I freaked out because it was the first time I didn't excel in school. Every time something gets hard, I think about Mr. Glen and how he taught me to fight for myself the way he fought for me.

My junior year of high school I was a mess - I mean I was a mess during most, if not all, of my high school years - on the outside things seemed okay (at least I thought I was succeeding in putting up a front) - anyway the German teacher at my school who was also the advisor for Student Government had reached out to my mother to share that she was a little concerned about me. I was of course 🤬 when I found out that she had called my mom, but in hindsight that moment helped open up a dialogue with my mom and more importantly caused me to do some self-reflection and almost 20 years later I'm still a mess lol but doing my best each day to be less self-centered, more honest and more compassionate.

The highest math grade I ever got because he believed in me.

I was 6 or 7 years old and a huge fan of Elvis Presley. For some reason I believed I could sing like him if I would eat Elvis' favorite meals. So nobody wanted to help me make a peanut butter banana sandwich or bread pudding because it was not exactly politically correct to cook any American dishes in East Berlin. But my uncle did it anyways and said America cannot be the class enemy if they have food like that.

Professor Chambers, in college for my math major I had to take Linear Analysis (which is where you basically prove everything you learn in Calculus) and it all was over my head! But we used to go to office hours every week and would spend hours there trying to grasp whatever concept he was teaching that week and he was just the most patient professor I had ever experienced at the college level. I felt like he taught me more about what it meant to be a teacher than any of my Ed professors.

Reconnecting with him as a professor in a different field solidified that making this career change was right for me. For the last 2 years he has been a mentor and more and I am eternally grateful for his friendship and expertise. He's watched me go from a girl with a criminal justice major/ communications major 9 years ago to where I am now!

It was a hard year - we had a fellow student pass away of random causes, a 6th grader commit suicide, and a previous principal pass away from cancer. All of this was a crazy year and she gave us the attention and space needed, and I ended up getting a 100 on the regents. She was the first teacher to make me feel like I was an exceptional math student and she started my love of writing on chalk boards too ;)
