The Harlem Renaissance was the development of the Harlem neighborhood in New York City. The neighborhood served as a safe space for black men and women in the 20th century to share their talents, such as art and music. This caused a boom in black culture and allowed more black people to share their talents publicly. This affected white Americans because they started to understand that black people had talents and were important too.

Tulsa Masacre

In 1921, a black naighborhood in Tulsa Oklahmoa was masacred at the hands of a white mob. This masacre killed hundreds of African Americans and burned more than 1,250 homes, almost erasing the whole neighborhood. It caused 1.8 millions dollars in damages. This caused an outbreak in protests and showed white Americans that African Americans deserve futures too.

Black wall street

Black Wall Street was a part of the Tulsa Massacre but had a lot of history before the massacre. Black Wall Street was a street full of shops owned by black business owners who were being supported by other black men and women. The shops were filled with different things and were very popular, influencing white Americans in the business world. This also helped to introduce African Americans to white businesses and partnering and widen their variety of customers.

Scopes trial

The Scopes Trial, formally known as the State of Tennessee vs. John Thomas Scopes was a legal case taking place from July 10th to July 21st. John Thomas Scopes was accused of violating the Butlers Act of Tennessee, which prohibits any use of human evolution as a punishment. He was found guilty and fined 100 dollars, but the verdict was overturned due to a technicality. It was overturned because one of the main contenders to the trial was formed around the bible, making it a mostly theoretically based argument. This trial helped Americans see that Theology should be separated from teaching, including acts of religion.

Installment buying

Installment buying is the act of buying something but making small payments over time, like a house payment. A lot of Americans in the 1920s were making installment purchases on things like cars and appliances. This wouldn't be a bad thing, but there was not really a limit on what installment purchases you could make, causing a lot of citizens to fall into deep debt. This affected a lot of people because installment debts would get so high that they couldn't purchase basic needs.
