In my opinion the most beautiful part of my town are “Le grotte di Nettuno”( in english: “Neptune's Caves”).

The cave was discovered by a local fisherman in the 18th century; the cave takes its name from the Roman divinity of the sea, Neptune and the cave is actually a popular tourist attraction. To get there, without taking boats, you have to raise 654 steps*, but in the end it is incredible, even cents are thrown into its waters and then a wish is made.

*the steps were made by prisoners.

In the summer of 1978 in Neptune's cave the film 'The Island of the fishmen' was shot, directed by Sergio Martino

The historic center is full of cobbled streets and historical monuments scattered everywhere.

There are also several cafes, restaurants and tourist shops.

The Cathedral and its bell tower, where you can climb and enjoy the view of Alghero. The Piazza Civica: the main square with many cafes on the terraces.

I think it is the historic center because it is small but beautiful and you can take a walk while also observing the sea from the ramparts at sunset. It is also very beautiful and interesting for a church with a colored dome called 'Church of S. Michele', near 'Lo Quarter': a place where there are currently public offices but in the past it was a medieval cemetery that was used by Ligurian, Sardinian, Catalan people.

In my opinion, the most beautiful place in Alghero is Villa Las Tronas ( now a 5-star hotel). It is situated at the sea on a promontory between Cala Lavatoio to the north and Cala Capone to the south.
The name Las Tronas - which means "the pulpits" in the dialect of Alghero - derives from the form of some rock formations that surround the Villa, now greatly eroded by the sea. It is a spectacular place, a refined residence where history and tradition create a unique atmosphere.
