Unpacking standards requires some real navel gazing sometimes (e.g., what is the difference in cognitive complexity between explain and demonstrate?), but it is a necessary part of teaching and will help you in terms of your own conceptual understanding and ability to translate standards into effective pedagogy. It is also a very common (if not overused) professional development task, so don’t be surprised if you see it in the field someday.
