Sally Mann would photograph pictures of her family, and the pictures were just basic. I always thought photography was used for big events or to show opinions towards a controversial topic. So, I learned that photography can be basic photos with ordinary people in one’s life and still convey a message.. Therefore, I learned that Sally Mann is a simplistic person with her basic black and white pictures of her family. Finally, I learned it takes a lot of hard work to make it big in the photography business considering Sally attended many schools for a good education on photography.

I learned that while taking photos, creating a good angle with leading lines is hard. It was difficult to find many examples of leading lines without background distractions. So, I had to find really good angles and places for leading lines. I also learned editing can be really basic but still change the photo a lot.

This project was fun because I could take pictures of basically anything. I liked the curves because it was easier to make a smaller change rather than in the past when it was large changes. This is my favorite photo because I like how the ribbon is a little blurry, but some of the pieces are still in focus. The lighting is also really good in this photo because it shines on the gold ribbon in certain spots.

This project was fun, but my pictures aren’t the greatest because I only had one day. I thought finding all the different colors was hard but fun because I had to look more in the nature. My favorite picture is this one because the lighting on the brown is very good. I also like that the focal point of the picture is the leaf and the rest is blurred.

I learned David Hockney viewed the world in an interesting way considering his work was not the normal way pictures were viewed. I do not like his style of work because I find it strange and it looks cluttered. The difficulty I had with this project was figuring out what to use from each photo once I was to my final pictures. This project should be taught to future students, so the students learn about different photography styles. Overall, this project was fun because it didn’t totally matter what you did with the pictures. This is because the pictures were meant to work together to make a strange looking collage of photos.

The easiest skill was the typography because there weren’t a lot of complex steps. The hardest skill was the double exposure because it was hard to make the landscape blend in with the person. I would like more DIY weeks because I like the freedom.
