Students are asked to explain their thinking, many jump at the opportunity. The students who do answer explain their steps (whether they make mathematical sense or not).

Students are asked to explain their thinking and respond to other students' thinking, comparing answers and reasoning behind their answers. Some students are happy to share, others less so.

In the math video, students were encouraged to put a thumb up if they feel they have the answer. This was a safe way to get students involved without them feeling like they have to draw attention to themselves for knowing the answer.

In the Word-Chaining lesson, we saw the use of small whiteboards for students to write their work and share it with the class.

Engagement and attention was high when students were brought closer to the teacher and the material. I certainly find that to be an effective strategy when I teach elementary.

We even see in the second video students invited to write on the smart board, adding more interactivity to the lesson and increasing engagement.
