I created my zine through Canva, and I had a little bit of trouble trying to print so I had to makeshift my Zine with staples and Glue. My Zine is all about Mass Incarceration and Abolition. It touches on Chattel Slavery and the "abolishment" of Slavery and pointing out the flaws in the 13th amendment. It also talks about how the Jim Crow Laws era had a major impact on mass incarceration. Including how President Nixon and his organization knew the impact they would have starting the war on drugs. I quote 3 readings from the class including the documentary the 13th and "The New Jim Crow Laws" by Michelle Alexander.

Hello class... I did my Zine on marginalized communities of exclusion. While there are many areas to discuss within these three topics, I chose to talk about the lecture on Settler Colonialism and Chattel Slavery, an examination of the film Hawaii To The Holocaust from the module Whiteness as Property and Militarism in the Pacific, and lastly, the piece from Evelyn Nakano Glenn’s Unequal Freedom_ How Race and Gender Shaped American Citizenship and Labor we read when looking at the unit on Citizenship and Belonging. I loved the simplicity of this project and tying in the themes we explored throughout the semester, and it made for a fun final!
