There is much value in creating a safe space and respectful, empathetic relationships that nurture real-world learning endeavors.

However, just like rigor, productive struggle doesn't mean just making it harder.   It is important that students feel safe enough to take risks, but we need to help them understand that they may not always have the "right" answer.  And that is OK! Students can learn from the process as much as they can from getting the right answer.

It is easy just to say "good job" or "I like it". I try to really take a close look at their work and give them a specific example of what I notice.
