A magnitude-6.2 earthquake occurred in the Hokkaido Region at 18:54 June 11. The epicenter was about 68 km (42 miles) southeast of Sapporo. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 112 km (70 miles), and shaking was probably felt throughout the Hokkaido Region and northern parts of the Tohoku Region. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Aftershocks are likely over the coming days.
