In a way, Louis Armstrong's music was an escape from reality for listeners who were struggling through the violent actions towards African Americans.

This statement is explaining how in the 1920s the Hollywood appeal was very large and there were movie theaters in many towns throughout America and the world. Chaplin's quote shows how appealing the films were to the American People, they were just fun, easy entertainment. An escape from the hardships of work and easier to do than go to a play or read a book. Because of this accessibility and easy laughs the simple physical humor brought, the movies became largely popular. People in Washington and Texas could watch the same film at the same time, all while the lead actor sat in his home.
Today this still exists because movies are still very popular and one can now watch many in their home with the click of a button and a netflix account.

No longer would African Americans silently endure the old ways of exploitation and discrimination. These artists and writers explored the pains and joys of being black in America, leaving a legacy that spoke to all Americans of all times.

This source is from the New York times, it is a newspaper front page from the day Lindbergh landed in Paris after the cross of the Atlantic. It shows how much hope this gave people for future innovation and how much of a star Lindbergh was seen as. The people in France and America thought he did the impossible and admired his bravery. Today flying in an airplane is not as admirable as it was but it is still highly regarded. There are still heros in innovation but now it's more is technology.

The New Woman of the 1920s, or the flapper, woredresses with shorter hemlines, put on more makeup,danced to the latest crazes, and generally assumed thatshe had the same political and social rights as any man.

The Great Gatsby is an excellent example of the common themes of decadence and wealth that were prominent in Lost Generation literature. Like many other books in this time period, The Great Gatsby examines the post war life of a rich veteran and essentially poses the idea that the American dream is impossible to achieve. Literature in this era demonstrated that only the rich could be successful and that it was essentially a waste of time for anyone else to try.

They didn't do it for the attention of men but for the freedom to break free from the attire society had long said that women should be prim and proper. It also parallels with many things today where parents don't like how kids dress or act but it's because they are just trying to change was has been given to them and make their own identity

This shows the modernism paintings in canada and how they were painting the wardrobe of an everyday woman and the beauty of flappers. They didn't paint women as dainty little things or try to make them seem proper. They used common images of the time without trying to romanticize it.
