The Bielski brothers showed that resistance during the Holocaust took many forms. Their bravery not only saved lives but also proved that Jewish people fought back against Hitler in powerful ways. Their story was later made famous in books and the 2008 movie Defiance, starring Daniel Craig as Tuvia Bielski. The Bielski partisans carried out sabotage missions against the Nazis, attacking German supply lines, blowing up railroads, and working with Soviet resistance fighters to disrupt Nazi operations.

Sophie Scholl was a member of the White Rose, a peaceful resistance group in Nazi Germany. Along with her brother Hans and other students, she secretly distributed leaflets that criticized Hitler’s regime and urged Germans to resist. In February 1943, she was caught handing out pamphlets at the University of Munich, arrested by the Gestapo, and put on trial.

Despite being questioned, Sophie refused to betray her friends and stayed strong. She, Hans, and Christoph Probst were executed on February 22, 1943. Her final words reflected her bravery, and today, she is remembered as a symbol of courage and standing up for what is right.
