During the 1800's many Americans, black and white, spoke out against slavery. The Abolitionist movement began during the Revolution. The Abolitionists wanted to end slavery in the United States. William Loyd Garrison formed the Anti-Slavery Society in 1833. Angelina and
Sarah Grimke gave speeches all over the North United States about how evil slavery was. Fredrick Douglas, an escaped slave, gave speeches against slavery and soon became a leader in the Abolitionist movement. Harriet Tubman was a conductor of the underground railroad. The anti-slavery fight led into the next reform, which was the Women's Rights Movement.
