This means that abbots and their monasteries brought themselves into allegiances and brought resources to various kingdoms. Monks were sent out by the Pope to help spread Catholicism.

As kings were converted to Catholicism the people followed and the Catholic Church grew.

Kings and other Catholic people spread the religion and built church.

The monks took a vow of poverty even though they had plenty of money to make.

Kings tried to overthrow the pope but each time they were defeated.
