There are many things about the Chumash tribe that are different then other tribes.

The men, like the women, practiced making beads. They used the beads as money for trading and things like that. The Chumash were also master basket makers.

As many as 40 to 50 people lived in one home. Around the inside of the houses each person had his or her own private area.

The clothing of the Chumash was warn in cold weather so in the summer and the heat, they didn't wear much clothing at all. The Chumash wore capes and dresses made of animal and bird skins.

The Chumash were friendly people and they got along with their neighboring tribes. When they went to war, which was not very often, they would use bows and arrows or knives if the enemies were close.

Many Chumash died because the Europeans brought diseases with them. So that meant that they died from things like the common cold and small pox.
