My passions lie in serving and supporting students during their time at UCI and in Student Housing. I am particularly dedicated to providing opportunities for students to gain experiences, knowledge, perspectives, and worldviews. Student Housing, with its unique community-based living environment, is a special space that is not often found outside of Higher Education. I appreciate this distinctiveness and the privileged place we have in a student's journey.

My passions & Personal values are around care and personal development. In my work, the moments where I have seen a true impact is when I have one on one conversations with students and staff while having difficult conversations and providing intentional support. I'm also passionate about creating a safe environment. This can look like a duty response or even confrontations around student safety. Being able to talk with students in a way that is educational and supportive. another value is supporting students in the midst of transition points. Its how students are supported that will have the most impact on their own ability to navigate changes.

One of my personal values is respect. I always try to respect where people are coming from, their passions, their struggles, their feelings, etc. I think part of respect requires learning about others and building connections so that you can learn about other’s stories.

In my first year as an RLC my focus has greatly been on learning the ropes and navigating Sierra (and its pitfalls). Sierra felt like a huge success (granted no formal assessment was made), I frequently saw students who were complete strangers to one another grow into great friends. Sierrans were invested in their community’s wellbeing. This year I want to expand on this and challenge this community to showcase their learning to the rest of MC.

I regularly check in with my RAs and build relationships with them where we can discuss things in and out of the role. The feedback I have received is that checking in on them from a holistic approach has been beneficial in helping them take care of themselves so that they can in turn take care of the residents and broader community.

Even outside of my professional role, in my personal life I am very driven by social justice and having a lifestyle/state of mind that supports continuous learning and community building. I see UHRL’s mission, vision and values aligning with mine in many ways. One being that an engaged student is often defined by their relations to others and community and that we should encourage these connections.

I passion focuses on the holistic development of each student, recognizing that education extends beyond academics. My approach focuses on coaching students through their social, emotional, and ethical development while also fostering creativity, encouraging the exploration of opportunities, and prioritizing their overall well-being. I achieve this by having meaningful conversations, offering personalized coaching, and building strong relationships with my students. I want them to grow into well-rounded individuals.

Safety: Focusing on training for duty so that RAs feel well prepared to address issues in the community and/or know what resources and support are out there. Create resources that can be added to duty bags for reoccurring issues.

I have supported and advance student housing mission/vision & values through my supervision of students. I’m new here, so I can’t quite say I’ve advanced the MVV in my experience here so far. However, in the past I have created programs and events that have provided spaces for students of underrepresented identities to feel a sense of belonging. I have also created programs that promoted student wellness and gave visibility to various campus partners/resources.

I plan to advance the MVV by making connections with campus partners in order to personally connect students whenever possible. My goal is to also provide a environment where RAs feel included and where I can support their overall wellness. I can do this by ensuring that I inquire about their wellbeing and their experience on the team at each of our 1:1s.

My goal this year is to share more resources for professional and personal development to our residents, RAs, and RLC peers (articles, conferences, training institutes, etc.). And embrace technology with RA training for mid-year hires (use educational tech software to ease the transition for mid-year hires)
